Guys, is it right for someone to say "my names are..." Or "my name is..."?
Personally, I think using "my name is..." is quiet better Or simply saying "I am..." without causing commotion.
Guys, share your opinion because this has been a bone of contention even up to the tertiary level.

When u use the singular one, it shows you're classifying your first name and surname as one

But in d plural sense, you're seperating them.

a lecturer corrected us during my school days that it should be "my name is" she said you can say you can call out billions of your names but not my names are. But i no sabi much english rules of grammar but i think she right because other lecturer didnt comment. So i rest my case.

U know what brought this question up? We were just having a lecture today when a lady ask the lecturer which was correct between the two forms of stating one's name. So the lecturer told her that both form are correct because English language is a living language and as such new form and expressions keep coming into it making it quiet difficult for one to stick to a particular opinion. He further explain that to avoid unnecessary misinterpretation in a formal setting we should simply use "I am..." which I think is really better.
