I could remember vividly the terms Jesus used
while he addressed the teachers of the law, the
scribes, the Pharisees, the Saducees, etcetera.
When I read through those passages, what I saw
was the pain in the heart of the Son of God
following the carnal modus operandi they applied in
handling spiritual things. What was on your mind
when he said "...for my father seeketh such...they
that would worship him in spirit and in truth..."
The word truth their denotes: REALITY, VERACITY,
FACTUALNESS, GENUINENESS, INFALIBILITY,
TRANSPARENCY, etcetera. When your service to
God is void of these words listed above my brother
it is called "EYE SERVICE!" This was why Jesus
was a controversial figure to them, why? At every
slight contact with them he debunks their
hypocrisy which was a sore to their 'PRESTIGE'.
Now in our contemporary Christianity, these odds
still lurk. It manifests in many forms.
1. When your Christianity is seen only when you
are in church my brother you may have to check
your name on the list of the 21st century Pharisee.
2. If you cannot truly worship God in your closet,
what you do in church when the worship session
goes on is EYE SERVICE. You may have to check
your name on the list of the 21st century Pharisee.
3. If speaking in tongues for you is when you are in
church or in leaders' meeting you would likely find
your name in the first ten in the book.
4. You went for evangelism and won just three
souls and in your report you said you won nine
souls just to be praised by your leader or your
pastor your name is in the first five in the 21st
Century Pharisee log book.
5. You had a group meeting and forty people were
in attendance and you claimed they were one
hundred so your group would be recognized by the
pastor your name is a 'sure banker' in the list.
6. You are a worship leader and the kind of music
you play at home is the one that inspires the flesh
and every service day you would tell the people of
God that you sleep with gospel songs my dear you
are a Pharisee of the 21st century order!
7. You want to ask a lady out in church and the
only scope you could lay your hands on is to give
her prophecy that "...The Lord said..." When you
are sure within your heart of hearts that The Lord
didn't say anything hmmmmm! My guy you belong
to the Pharisee!
8. When you talk about your pastor negatively
behind his back and show him fake smiles just to
make him know that you are with him in everything
he does, delivering wonderful remarks about him
don't worry your name is in the book.
9. When you are asked how much you gave for a
project and you falsify the figure just to make the
man of God smile at you don't worry your case in
the Pharisee Court of appeal!
10. When a prayer post is sent by your pastor and
you postpone them or in extreme cases, discard
them only to lift your voice on top of everybody's
voice to pray because the prayer point was made
in church and you are present in the service my
dear you are a Pharisee citizen!
11. When the words that come out of your mouth
is only sanctified when you come for meetings in
church or within the church vicinity it's most
assuredly to assert that you are a Pharisee.
12. When you know you didn't come for service
because of some factors that are not worth
dropping as an excuse yet you lie that you were in
another branch of the church for the service so it
would look nice before your leader you are
Pharisee 'HOOOHAAA'.
These and many more we have encountered over
the years. Listen, you are not living your Christian
life for anyone even though at various points we
should submit to a spiritual leadership which is
vital for our spiritual growth! But I tell you, don't
try to use your Christian life to please anyone! Use
it to please God! What you can't do in the private
don't brag about it in the public...it makes you be
in the same picture of the sect Jesus spoke
against. This time, there is no Jesus to speak
against what you do but there is this voice of the
spirit within you letting you know you are off track!
Listen to it and end your EYE SERVICE spell. It
would only land you in HELL!!!! KPOM!
