e All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed shock at the defection of some of its members in Ogun State to another party, but said the defection will not affect the overall chances of the party in the forthcoming polls.

A former Governor of the state, Chief Olusegun Osoba, led the defections to the Social Democratic Party.

Former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba
Among those who defected with him were the state deputy governor and the three senators in the state.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the APC said the shock stemmed from the fact that efforts are ongoing to reconcile the aggrieved members in the Ogun State chapter, and it was expected that they would give room for those efforts to yield fruit.

The party expressed the hope that the defecting party members will reconsider their decision and beat a quick retreat.

''Yes, the defection of some our members will create some challenges for our party, but we will go back to the drawing board to re-strategize and redouble our efforts to retain the state in 2015,” the spokesman said.

''Every member of our party is important to its overall success, but none is more important than the party. Against this background, no member can hold the party into ransom.”

APC said it was a mere fallacy for anyone to conclude that the defection of some members, irrespective of their self-importance, would dramatically alter thechances of the party in 2015. It therefore urged its members in Ogun State not to lose any sleep over the latest development.

I understand their shock however, we need improve our political system. All our parties do not have any political ideology which is the reason why it is always easy for them to come and go. If we have ideologies, we will be able to tell them to their faces that they lack integrity.

Osoba and Amosun were never in the same camp.
That is to show that many of our politicians are playing "Belle" politics

Don't mind that old man. He's only angry that Amosun didn't give him Ogun State's money. The only people I pity are the senators. They will be the losers at the end cos people are ready to bring back Amosun come 2015.

Indeed. A bitter, egocentric and extremely divisive attention-seeker. He is upset Amosun cannot be controlled and that the Ogun Governor is a very focused administrator who has no time for politics of patronage whereby political 'big boys', competent or not, are always given first choice pick of government contracts and granted free access to money meant for developing the State.

Amosun has committed no crime but these 'throwback' politicians have hated him from day one simply because the governor wants to be a modern and pro-people administrator rather than a puppet of the elite. This man is virtually the best governor Ogun State has had and the people better protect and treasure him if they know what is best for them and the future of their children.

Aaah wink SDP my party! If you are no longer on the same (political)page with some people, the best thing is to leave them.
It happens everywhere in the world.

I commend Osoba for this great move. He had been shouting himself hoarse within the APC but they chose to ignore him. Those saying that he wants to share the state's treasury with Amosun; is Amosun not guilty of 'eating' and sharing it with others? Why not share also with the man on whose back he rode to power?

Politics is like a war and after every war, the spoils of war are shared amongst those who fought the war. The Generals, who stay back in camp 'planning' end up with more share than the soldiers on the field. That is the way of the world.

Amosun should not pretend that 'his love for the masses' made him to renege on whatever unholy arrangement he had with his masters before he was made Governor.

That old man Osoba should leave Amosun alone. Its only in Nigeria you find dinosaurs overbearing themselves on dynamic young people instead of relaxing at home with their great grand children

The defection of a political collosus like Osoba with 3 Senators,6 House of Representative Members,Deputy Governor et cetera means an irreparable loss to APC. Amosun and his cohorts may be saying somethingelse but they know within themselves that winning Ogun State will be an herclean task. Amosun is going, going, going, going, going.
