US Warns Its Citizens Ahead Of Gej's Declaration by Collynzo22: 9:48pm On Nov 10, 2014
Ahead of President Jonathan’s declaration to
contest the 2015 Presidential elections tomorrow, the US embassy in Nigeria has issued a warning to its citizens visiting or residing in Nigeria to be security conscious and stay away from public places. The message on its website (nigeria.usembassy.gov) reads thus: President
Goodluck Jonathan is expected to announce his candidacy for re-election on November 11 at 10 am in Eagle Square, Abuja. Heavy traffic in and arou eagle Square is expected. We also expect additional police and military checkpoints, additional security,
and possible road blocks. The U.S. Mission suggests
you avoid this area. The Mission would also like to remind all U.S.
citizens to review and ensure they practice the
following security precautions: In Public Areas Always be aware of your general surroundings
and try to avoid large crowds, especially political
marches, gatherings, and demonstrations. When in crowded public areas, remain vigilant for
signs of trouble. Before entering any establishment,
scan the area for suspicious activity to avoid
walking into a robbery in progress or other
trouble. Remember where the nearest fire exits and
other avenues of escape are located. If you hear shots fired, immediately get down on the ground.
Do not try to investigate or intervene. While Driving Due to increased security and heavy traffic delays,
the U.S. Mission expects a higher potential for traffic
accidents, roadblocks, and other street crime.
Traffic along Shehu Shagari Way, Ahmadu Bello
Way, Constitution Avenue, and Independence
Avenue often becomes completely stopped or blocked. U.S. citizens should alter their routes to
avoid these areas. Do not leave anything visible inside your vehicle
that might tempt someone, including purses,
backpacks, briefcases, laptops, cellular telephones,
and other electronic items. Store these items in the
trunk or under the seat. Keep windows up and
doors locked. Car-jackers target moving vehicles but thieves also frequent parking areas looking for
anything in plain sight worth taking. Remain alert while driving, especially when
stopped at traffic intersections and highway off-
ramps. Keep an eye on pedestrians and other
drivers around you. Leave at least half a car length
of space between you and the car in front of you in
case it becomes necessary to take evasive action. When leaving a public area, such as a shopping
area, restaurant, or airport, check your rearview
mirrors for any vehicles that may be following you.
If you feel you are being followed or notice
suspicious persons or vehicles near your vehicle
entrance, do not enter your property. Go to a safe area (such as a police station or the Embassy/
Consulate General/Guest Quarters, and so forth)
and call the Embassy or Consulate General.
On-Going Security Threat The U.S. Embassy continues to monitor closely the
ongoing threat posed by a Nigerian extremist
group and their intentions to carry out attacks
against the Nigerian Government and western
interests in Nigeria. U.S. citizens should continue to exercise caution.
Please maintain a high state of vigilance and
personal awareness, particularly in and around
Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, near Nigerian
government facilities, diplomatic missions, large
gathering places, hotels, markets and malls, and places of worship. Please be advised that Nigerian police and military
units may establish additional police checkpoints,
security, and road blocks in Abuja. If you are confronted by an armed individual Immediate compliance is suggested, avoid making
sudden movements, and do not offer up any form
of resistance. Any hesitation on your part could be
perceived as a threat, which may result in
unnecessary violence. We recommend that U.S. citizens traveling to or
residing in Nigeria enroll in the Department of
State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).
STEP enrollment gives you the latest security
updates, and makes it easier for the U.S. embassy or
nearest U.S. consulate to contact you in an emergency. If you do not have internet access,
enroll directly with the nearest U.S. Embassy or
Consulate.

FINALY... FINALY!!
Atlast..
The whole world (i dare say the whole international comunity) has finaly lifted their heads, long since buried in the sand, like a 'Collective gathering of Ostriches'. To begin to give (even if mutedly) some form of 'public' credence to what (it is certain) their inteligence agencies have always told them...
About a most Virulent and Satanic lot that pass for an 'oposition' in my country. An Oposition Nigeria is specialy 'blessed' with.
.
Atleast its now an 'open secret' what the next few days holds for all the spectators, 'near' and 'far'.
.
No more pretence
.
God bless Nigeria.

I am not seeing any exposure APC tactics here but a great insult to our nation. It speaks of a government who can't protect his citizens and take selfish personal ambition ahead of the masses. It is just like that proverbial sentence- sleeping under a roof of fire.

All these warnings for Nigeria alone? One would think there is a war going on.

May God help us as a country. The opposition seems to be "over" desperate which is giving the President more support base. "Should there be any form of bombing this day of the President's declaration may mar every other rallies by the opposition since violence is not the sole responsibility of one person or group." The government (ruling party) has provided some levels of security throughout the several campaigns and rallies by the opposition and if anyone or groups feel the best way to play politics of bitterness and desperation is to cause havoc on a day like this that the President will be declaring should rethink that option. Those that live in glass houses should learn not to throw stones. May God bless Nigeria.

Two areas ring bell in American message to her citizens.

1. Americans have noticed that bombings are intensified each time GEJ is about embarking on a political rally.

2. Even Americans expect a tighter security in Abuja.

My question now is how comes some Nigerians could not see the need to beef up security and rather called the president coward?
