5 Songs You Wont Believe Were Passed On By Other Artist by Nobody: 7:26pm On Nov 12, 2014
Meghan Trainor's been enjoying a fairytale dream-come-true
moment in music with the success of her single "All About That
Bass" — but did you know it almost wasn't her song? It got us to
thinking about some of today's biggest hits, and how many of
them were passed on by other artists...or just intentionally written
for someone else. Pop has a lot of swapping lyrics going on
behind closed doors, so let's open a few of them and take a look
at five jams that were given away to a different pop star!

5. "Unbreakable"

Recorded by: Jamie Scott

Pitched to: One Direction

We got the chance to sit down with Graffiti6 member and
frequent One Direction collaborator Jamie Scott a few months
back, and after penning the tune "Unbreakable," Scott thought he'd
better keep the track for himself. You can't let all your good work
go to other artists!

4. "Go"

Recorded by: Grimes & Blood Diamonds

Pitched to: Rihanna

Canadian producer Grimes originally wrote this unique pop track
for Rihanna, but after RiRi passed on it, she figured she'd better
record it under her own name. Grimes calls it a "summer jam"
that's just a teaser of her upcoming LP.

3. "Boom Clap"

Recorded by: Charli XCX

Pitched to: Hilary Duff

This heartfelt love song from The Fault In Our Stars soundtrack
was intended for UK pop songwriter Charli XCX's debut album
True Romance, but got left off the track list. Therefore, she
thought that Hilary Duff would like the romantic tune, but whomp
whomp — Hils rejected it. Oh well, it's doing AMAZING on the
charts under Charli's name!

2. "Black Widow"

Recorded by: Iggy Azalea & Rita Ora

Pitched to: Katy Perry

Initially meant for KP's latest album, Prism, it was put on the
chopping block during the final track listing cut. But Perry still
wanted the song recorded, so she passed it on to Iggy: and the
rest is history!

1. "All About That Bass"

Recorded by: Meghan Trainor

Pitched to: Beyonce

Trainor co-wrote this bouncin' track over a year ago, and
apparently it was presented to a dozen high-profile singers:
including Queen Bey! But Meghan claims she's not even sure if
Beyonce had the chance to hear the song — after all, she probably
gets a thousand pitches a day.
