Not saying that this story is true, but 'Ali' is an Igbo name, in western and Eastern parts of Igboland, Land is 'Ali', instead of Ani/Ana/Ala used in central parts of Igboland. In Ikwerre and Ogba, Land is 'Ali' too.

There was this popular Igbo musician from Aboh Ukwuani that was named Ali Chukwuma.

i agree with you but let me add anoder possible scenario. the child was adopted by mr bongo so mr bongo decided to name him ali instead of tochukwu to fit into his family.

What will his origin add or take away from his leadership ability, if he have've got any?...misplaced priority
