Kemetian: You are still obsessed with govt. Why not worry about the things you can change? I cannot personally change anything, because I don't have the power to. Government has the power. If I was in government, i would have the power. |
Politics › Re: Nigerians, The Problem Is You.... Not Your Leaders. by 1Alex: 6:34am On Jun 16, 2025 |
Kemetian: I never said we would solve all our problems simply by prioritising local over foreign.
But we would certainly solve basic issues like hunger, shelter..
Many of the problems you mentioned can even be fixed by greater public wealth, such as education and healthcare affordability (including private), stable power (who won't be able to afford solar?)
Do you think an extra 14 billion dollars every year circulating - not among politicians - but among the Nigerian people, won't make a significant impact on living standards?
I mean, for crying out loud mehn.... That paragraph is the least any people can get form their government. If the citizens should take care of them, then there is no government at all. |

SmartPolician: If we don't have a leader who genuinely shows love for country and encourages others to love the country, Nigeria will remain like this till the end of time.
This is something I thought Buhari would do (although I never voted for him). As for Tinubu, I know that man can NEVER be that leader because you cannot give what you don't have. There was a newspaper headline where he said he didn't believe in ONE Nigeria. Today, his appointments and actions show that belief.
Our biggest problem is love for country.... nobody loves this country; everyone is only interested in getting their share of the national cake. No country prospers with its citizens having that mindset.
If you go to America, you will see everyday people hoisting their flags on the entrance of their houses because they are crazily in love with their country. Nigerians don't do that because people are more loyal to their ethnic groups and only profess love for the country when they want something from her.
There was one CCTV footage of a America rider who came to deliver a package in the mailbox of its owner. Upon getting to the owner's doorstep, he saw an American flag hanging on the wall. He saluted the flag, dropped the parcel and left. That's love for country. This is something we may never see in our generation because Nigeria is built of falsehood. If you love your country, you (everyone) will do your best to see it prosper.
In picture below - everyday people hanging American flags on their wall. you are very correct. But. How can you love the country when a known set of people are killing your brothers in another village and the government does nothing? How can you love the country when monkey dey work and baboon dey chop? How can you love the country when a set of already rich politicians are sharing billions among themselves for doing almost while many people are in abject poverty? In just 4 years tenure, a senator will acquire the amount a civil servant cannot get in 35 years of service. In one thread, someone said "abroad, hard work yields results but in Nigeria, hardwork does not guarantee success" I strongly believe that when leaders lead well, things will begin to fall into the right place. |

Investment › Re: Why Your Salary Keeps Disappearing | The Simple Money System Every Nigerian Need by 1Alex: 5:41am On Jun 16, 2025 |
Thank God for ai. I don't have to watch the video to know the content. Here is the Ai summary of the video: Here's a straightforward summary of the video:
💡 Core Idea
The presenter introduces a simple, budget-based money system designed specifically for Nigerians to help manage their incomes and curb “salary disappears syndrome.”
🧩 Key Components
1. The 4-Envelopes Approach
Essentials: Allocated for housing, utilities, food, transportation.
Growth: Savings, investments, and emergency funds.
Treats: Personal enjoyment—dining, hobbies, small luxuries.
Giving/Giving Back: Charity, helping others, or community-based goals.
2. Percentage Guidelines
Suggested allocations (e.g., 50% necessities, 20% growth, 20% treats, and 10% giving).
Tailor these based on your income and lifestyle, adjusting as needed.
3. Monthly Funnel Workflow
At each paycheck: Immediately separate the money into your four envelopes.
Treats and giving are non-negotiable, making budgeting a balanced, non-depriving habit.
4. Accountability & Tracking
Use simple tools: notebooks, spreadsheets, or mobile apps.
Weekly check-ins help catch leaks before they become issues.
➕ Why It Works for Nigerians
Cash-flow challenges: Many live paycheck to paycheck. This method ensures every Naira has a purpose.
Cultural fit: Recognizes priorities like family support, treating yourself, and community giving.
🛠 Takeaway Tips
Start small: Even with 20k–50k Naira monthly income—balance matters more than size.
Automate when possible: Automate savings or use separate wallets/accounts digitally.
Re-evaluate periodically: Adjust envelope percentages when your income or expenses change.
🎯 Final Thoughts
It’s not about how much you earn—it’s about clarity in spending. Give every Naira a job at the start of the month. That discipline builds financial relief, growth, joy, and generosity. |

Kemetian: Everything is 'our leaders'.
'Our leaders'.
'Our leaders'.
You all just need to sit back and let ''our leaders'' create heaven on Earth, failing which ''we have failed''.
Why? Because ''our leaders'' did not do blah blah blah....
Awon useless.
The other day I started a thread on how We the people can create millions of jobs overnight if we stopped importing Brazilian dog hair to make us look like white people and instead paid our local girls to plait and weave our hair the African way.
Make that a new industry. A new trend. African-styled hair. Various possible styles open to creative imagination. Watch millions of jobs spring out of nothing in a country of 250 million people.
Just a simple decision by we the people to say ''We do not want to look like white people and spend millions of dollars importing dog hair from Brazil, and perming chemicals from USA and China. We are happy with our God-given hair.''
That alone can create over 10 million new jobs overnight in this country.
Quote me on that anywhere.
Zero government involvement!
The other day I saw the huge amounts running into billions of dollars Nigerians spend every year importing rubbish. Things they should be buying from their own people, from shoes to handbags to clothes.
So where will jobs come from if you are buying all these basic things from Italy and China?
The ones they make in Nigeria, you shun as 'local'.
If you don't patronise them, how will they grow and improve?
A nation programmed by colonisers to hate the very colour of their own skin.
The texture of their own hair.
The products of their own hands.
The capacity of their own minds.
How can you ever harness your environment to your benefit and prosperity?
Never.
If I present to you 2 shiny new wristwatches and say,
''A is made in Switzerland, and
B is made in Nigeria'',
You will choose A, without blinking.
Multiply that mindset by 245 million people (let's assume there are at least 5 million sensible Nigerians).
What's the incentive for the local innovator down the road who can make watches and wants to start a wristwatch brand?
Zero.
That is the root of our problems and why we suffer poverty and hunger when there's no famine.
You're hopelessly condemned to societal poverty until you elevate yourselves and your products in value and worth over anything from outsiders. Without such a mentality, you can never create enough value to be a wealthy society.
Till then, keep blaming ''Our Leaders''. How can all these things you wrote here provide stable electricity, good roads, functional education and health systems, how can they promote rule of law, how can these provide a business friendly environment? How can these make our refineries to begin to work optimally? Some level 14 officers salary at a federal government establishment is not up to 300k in the present day Nigeria. Most Federal government establishments are Completely dead due to lack of maintenance and you blaming the people. Some government workers use their monies from the meager salary to buy equipment to work for the government and you are blaming the people. Some businesses have closed down due to government policies, but you chose to blame the people. Politicians are looting our funds and nothing happens to them yet you blame ordinary Nigerians. You may have to think again. |

Foreign Affairs › Re: Picture Of Downed Israeli F35 - Posted By IRGC Twitter Handle by 1Alex: 8:49pm On Jun 15, 2025 |
Chatgpt says.... That image shows an F‑35 fighter jet that crashed just outside Albuquerque, New Mexico on May 28, 2024. The aircraft—a brand‑new F‑35B—was being ferried from Lockheed Martin’s plant in Fort Worth, Texas, to Edwards Air Force Base in California. During a refueling stop at Kirtland AFB, the pilot ejected and survived with injuries, and the jet went down on a nearby hillside .
Multiple news outlets confirm the details: ABC News reported the crash off the airport near 2 p.m., noting the pilot was conscious after ejecting . The Associated Press similarly covered the crash site and pilot rescue . Specialized military outlets and The War Zone traced the aircraft path from Fort Worth via Kirtland before the mishap occurred .
In short, the photo captures the wreckage of that May 2024 F‑35B crash in New Mexico—not a combat loss or incident in another country. I queried further. Me: An online post claimed it is a Picture Of Downed Israeli F35 - Posted By IRGC on X It replied: 👇 That claim is false. The image you're referring to has been misattributed in some online posts.
Here's the real story:
Date of Incident: May 28, 2024
Location: Near Kirtland Air Force Base, Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA
Aircraft: F‑35B Lightning II (a U.S. military jet)
Operator: The jet was being transferred from Lockheed Martin to the U.S. Marine Corps for testing.
Incident: The jet crashed shortly after takeoff. The pilot ejected and survived.
Source: Verified by major outlets like ABC News and AP News, and covered extensively by defense sites like The War Zone.
About the "Israeli F-35" claim:
Some people have digitally edited the image to include the Star of David (Israel's air force insignia) on the wing and falsely labeled it as an Israeli jet downed by the IRGC (Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps). That symbol does not appear in the original news photographs or footage from the crash site in New Mexico.
This kind of misinformation often spreads during times of conflict, especially between Israel and Iran. It’s part of online propaganda tactics—taking a real photo, altering it slightly, and attaching a false story to provoke reaction or push a narrative.
Bottom line:
This is not an Israeli F‑35 and not a combat incident. It’s a U.S. accident from May 2024, and any claims by the IRGC or social media accounts stating otherwise are not based on fact. |

Okeytech: Some days ago i posted about my unrepentant cheating wife and plans to chase her away https://www.nairaland.com/8447833/want-send-wife-packing/2#8447833.93
Today i woke up and told her to put her things together before i come back from work cos I'll be taking her back to her parents then she started telling me that it won't pain her cos she has money now and that she has been planning to rent a house before now, so i replied her and said it's good. Then i left to work and after some time while i was at work my mind was telling me to close earlier than usual and i heed to my mind and closed and headed home. Immediately i got home she had already chartered a cab and was packing her things, so i entered the house and checked her load that she was arranging then i found out she had packed alot of foodstuff palm oil, groundnut oil, rice, beans, spaghetti soaps, detergent etc. Then i quietly started packing them back to the kitchen and told her this are my properties, the next thing she did was to slap me and hit me and i got angry and beat her. After some time of dragging she left and i told her to leave the kids which she did. Right now i got to find out through my house help who is staying with me that she didn't go back to her family house but rather she went to her cousin's place to stay cos she overhead her phone calls with her cousins when i left for work.... So as it is now, nobody from her family knows she has left my house.
Shame is part of the reason she doesn't want to go back home and offcourse none of her elder siblings supported all her cheating acts that i've been complaining to them about and she got angry and stopped talking to them cos they didn't support her. you did not handle it well. You should not have told her to pack her things. You should have told her that you people are going home to see her people. When you reach there, you tell her your decision and tell her parents that you have brought back their daughter. Leave her there. Then go back to your base and pack her things by yourself and send to her. |

Business › Re: Oil Prices Soar After Israel Attacks Iran's Nuclear Facilities by 1Alex: 7:06am On Jun 13, 2025 |
Here’s how this sharp oil-price spike impacts Nigeria:
1. Boosted Government Revenue & Budget Relief
With Brent crude jumping 8–12%, global oil is now over $75–78/barrel .
Nigeria’s oil revenue (≈80% of government earnings) will receive a healthy uptick .
The national budget benchmark (~$75/barrel) has been surpassed—delivering much-needed fiscal headroom .
2. Stronger Naira & Foreign Exchange Relief
Oil proceeds buoy Nigeria’s FX reserves, easing pressure on the naira.
Already, the currency outlook has improved following the crude rally .
This helps reduce import costs, tame inflation, and may soften fuel-price hikes.
3. Consumer Impact: Higher Domestic Fuel & Diesel Prices
Higher global crude indirectly raises PMS and diesel costs, inflating transportation and living expenses.
Price hikes in Nigeria tend to lag behind global rises, but are certain to filter through .
4. Macro Balance: A Double-Edged Sword
Pro Con
Increased foreign exchange & fiscal buffers Rising inflation due to higher pump prices Improved oil company margins Pressure on consumers & logistics Possibility of currency stability Budget may need to curb subsidies
Bottom Line
Short-term wins for government revenue and the naira, but Nigerian consumers and businesses face steeper fuel bills. Policy decisions—like how much of the windfall goes to subsidies vs. savings—will be key in shaping the next few months. |
