Politics › Re: Defection: ADC Accepts Kwankwaso's Conditions by 1Alex: 4:28pm On Mar 30 |
A simple Ai summary
Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is planning to leave his current party (NNPP) and join another party called African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Before agreeing to join, he gave the ADC some conditions.
Main conditions he asked for:
1. He wanted control over who becomes the ADC governorship candidate in Kano State (basically, he chooses the person).
2. He also wanted a strong leadership role in the party (which they agreed to).
3. He tried to secure the vice-presidential slot for 2027, but the party refused this one.
What ADC agreed to:
They accepted his demand to pick the Kano governorship candidate.
They agreed he will be a top leader in the party, especially in Kano.
What they did NOT agree to:
They did not promise him the vice-presidential position.
Other key points:
Some of his allies are also moving with him to ADC.
This move is part of bigger political changes ahead of the 2027 elections.
Both sides compromised a bit to make the deal happen.
In simple terms: Kwankwaso is switching parties, but only after making sure he has influence—especially in Kano politics. He didn’t get everything he wanted, but enough to go ahead with the move. |

Politics › My Reply To: "Nigeria Overtakes India In Poverty" by 1Alex(op): 10:12am On Mar 11*. Modified: 10:37am On Mar 11 |
Nigeria’s Problem Is Not Population, It Is Systemic Corruption and Failed Governance
Every time Nigerians complain about bad policies and poor governance, some defenders of the system quickly say the same thing: “Nigeria’s population is too big.” They claim reforms cannot work because the country has too many people.
But this argument collapses when you compare Nigeria with India.
India has about 1.4 billion people, while Nigeria has roughly 220 million. That means India has more than six times Nigeria’s population. Yet Nigeria has repeatedly ranked among the countries with the largest number of people living in extreme poverty despite its smaller population.
So population clearly is not the real problem.
Now look at natural resources.
Nigeria is blessed with enormous wealth: crude oil, natural gas, bitumen, limestone, coal, iron ore, vast arable land, and a young workforce. For decades, oil alone has generated hundreds of billions of dollars. India does not have that kind of natural resource advantage. Yet India invested heavily in manufacturing, technology, education, and infrastructure, building industries that employ millions.
Nigeria did the opposite.
Instead of using oil wealth to industrialize the country, successive governments allowed corruption, waste, and elite capture to dominate the system. The result is a country rich in resources but poor in outcomes.
Take the issue of national budgets.
The federal government announces massive budgets every year. But implementation is often poor. For example, the National Assembly criticized the 2024 budget performance when it stood at about 43 percent, with capital projects performing even worse.
Capital spending is the part of the budget that builds roads, railways, power plants, hospitals, and industries. But most of Nigeria’s spending goes to recurrent costs like salaries and government overheads, leaving little for development.
The situation in 2025 raised even more concern. Reports indicated that many ministries received zero or near-zero capital releases, meaning projects approved in the budget were not funded at all.
In fact, government officials had to explain to lawmakers why the 2025 capital budget had reportedly recorded zero implementation despite being approved.
To make matters worse, the government even deferred about 70 percent of the 2025 capital projects to the 2026 budget, effectively postponing development again.
This kind of fiscal mismanagement slows economic growth and keeps the country stuck in a cycle of poverty.
Another major problem is debt.
Nigeria now spends a large portion of its revenue servicing debt. In 2024, about 69 percent of government revenue went into debt servicing, leaving limited funds for development projects.
Add insecurity to the mix — from banditry to farmer-herder conflicts and agricultural production drops, industries suffer, and investors stay away.
The result is predictable.
Despite massive oil revenues over the past five decades, Nigeria still struggles with electricity, infrastructure, healthcare, education, and industrialization. Meanwhile, countries with fewer natural resources have built stronger economies simply because their systems work better.
So when people say Nigeria’s population is the problem, they are avoiding the real issue.
The truth is simple: Nigeria’s biggest problem is corruption, weak institutions, and poor leadership.
A country with Nigeria’s resources should not be struggling like this. Until systemic corruption is tackled and governance improves, budgets will keep failing, reforms will keep collapsing, and the country will continue underperforming.
Population did not destroy Nigeria. Bad governance did.

Politics › Re: Nairaland Member Declares To Contest Abeokuta North Ogun Assembly Seat by 1Alex: 7:20am On Mar 11 |
PACIONS: If I had the opportunity to represent Abeokuta North in the House of Assembly, three immediate policy priorities I would push to tackle youth unemployment are:
1. Youth Skills & Innovation Development Program
I would advocate for legislation that supports the establishment of community skill and innovation centers where young people can gain practical training in areas such as digital technology, creative industries, agriculture, construction, and vocational trades. Skills must match real economic opportunities.
2. Small Business & Youth Enterprise Support Fund
Many youths have ideas but lack access to startup capital. I would push for policies that create structured micro-grants and low-interest loans for young entrepreneurs, alongside mentorship and business development support.
3. Agriculture & Local Production Empowerment
Abeokuta North has strong agricultural potential. I would promote policies that encourage youth participation in modern agriculture, agro-processing, and local value chains, helping young people move from unemployment into productive enterprise.
These three areas — skills, entrepreneurship, and agriculture — can create sustainable opportunities when properly supported. But leadership should always listen to the people, which is why I truly value the ideas shared here.
Let’s keep the conversation going. how do you intend to get the money to embark on these programmes? |

TV/Movies › Re: Checkout What NTA Jos Studio Looks Like (Photos) by 1Alex: 6:27pm On Mar 07 |
Throwback: While I am surprised that a studio could look like that, then I am no longer surprised when a paltry N137m is for studio equipment for states capital stations in the whole country.
Ask yourself if N137m is enough for even 1 state capital station?
It means every state capital station of NTA must depend on their own share of the N137m to procure or upgrade existing studio. Hence why you have such obvious makeshift studio.
That is nonsense.
Will the government commit more money to such when it is yet to better fund Healthcare and other infrastructural projects? No!
The respective states NTA stations should pursue IGR from its advert slots and programme slots. how will the advert come when most of the stations are off-air due to lack of maintenance |

princeade86: Judge urself with ur li es.The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) was allocated a total of ₦21.3 billion in the 2025 federal budget. Intelpoint Intelpoint 2025 Budget Breakdown for NTA: Based on the 2025 budget proposal, the ₦21.3 billion allocation is divided into the following main areas: Instagram Instagram +2 Personnel Cost (Salaries): ₦9.48 billion Allowances and Social Distributions: ₦7.35 billion Capital Projects: Approx. ₦1.5 billion (including, for example, ₦149 million for DSNG uplink facilities, ₦193 million for content acquisition, and ₦137 million for studio equipment for state capital stations). Instagram Instagram +2 Contextual Information: Historical Funding: In the 10 years prior to 2021, the federal government invested a total of ₦67 billion into NTA, with a significant portion going toward personnel costs. 2020 Allocation: In 2020, NTA received ₦6.6 billion, with ₦6.1 billion for personnel and only ₦303.8 million for capital projects. Comparison: In 2025, NTA, alongside the National Orientation Agency (NOA - ₦24.4 billion) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN - ₦21.5 billion), accounted for over 60% of the total budget for the Ministry of Information and National Orientation. so only you did not hear that out of Nigeria's 2025 budget, only zero naira was disbursed? Kushites: What allocation? They get a pittance, and have always gotten a pittance. The govt simply can't afford to spend big money to make NTA what you think it should be.
Go and see how much FOX NEWS has to spend each year, and compare it to your 'NTA allocation'. You'll be embarrassed.
Abeg forget. The govt priorities are roads, schools, hospitals etc, not NTA.
Why is govt even SUPPOSED to have expertise in running a TV station??
It's really not their job.
If you want 'CNN-LEVEL', do what those who started CNN did. IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH GOVT.
It's Private Sector.
