twosquare: One of the most difficult skill---trading the financial market. forex trade is not a tech field but business; buying and selling. The skill required to be successful in forex trading can also be applied to other businesses: analysing the market, Knowing when to buy and when to sell. Even a palm oil seller needs same skill. Learning forex trading alone does not guarantee a secure financial future. While some people do find success in forex, it’s inherently a high-risk market with no guarantees of profit. |

This is my personal thought.
As Trump wins US presidential election, he may facilitate the end of Russia - Ukraine war. Once this war ends, Ukraine will begin to rebuild the damaged country. They may need to amend their immigration policy to make it easier for foreigners especially Africans to troop in to help rebuild the country and economy.
Therefore save money. If it happens, it will be a very easy and cheap way to japa.

ivandragon: I think the immediate issues that need to be addressed, aside the elephant in the room which is corruption, are:
1. Peg the exchange rate at between N500-N600. This would lead to a reduction in prices across all sectors.
2. Be serious about the issue of insecurity. The farmers are having a hard time farming in peace due to bandits, terrorists and kidnappers.
3. Have a clear agricultural support policy that ensures farmers get the needed farm inputs as at when due, at reduced costs and no unnecessary administrative bottlenecks.
4. Mandate that no food or fuel truck should be extorted or unnecessarily delayed by security agents. Provide special toll free numbers for the drivers to call if they are harassed and grant them full authority to record the activities of security agents that stop them. The extortion these transporters suffer from security agents adds to the rising costs of goods.
Of course, these are stop-gap measures which can be immediately implemented without actually reintroducing subsidy. your points are also very OK if implemented. But I think it should have been done even before subsidy removal. The sudden removal and the floating of the naira were just done without any plan on ground. This is not governance at all. But I still think that reintroduction of the subsidy will have immediate effect on the livelihood of Nigerians. Then other recommendations follow while the subsidy is eventually removed. |

ElSudani: Your number 1 suggestion alone is enough to cause brain hemorrhage for some folks. He is already being accused without evidence of being a monopolist. yes, but the suggestion is in the interest of the nation. Ateast the government will know who the subsidy payment is made to and how much actually it is subsidizing. If fuel price drops, the money that will be made by the government from robust business activities will be able to cover the money paid on the subsidy. |
Politics › Subsidy Removal: My Suggestion To Government For A Revisit. by 1Alex(op): 5:05pm On Nov 01, 2024 |
The removal of this subsidy was intended to curtail corruption and stimulate economic sustainability. However, its impact on the lives of everyday Nigerians has been severe, as rising cost of fuel has driven inflation, increasing the cost of living across all sectors.
In light of these challenges, I propose a revised subsidy model that leverages the recent establishment of the Dangote Refinery. Given that petrol is now being refined locally, there exists a new opportunity for transparency and control over subsidy payments.
To implement this model effectively, I suggest the following:
1. Direct Subsidy to the Refinery: The government should consider reinstating the subsidy, but rather than a blanket subsidy, it should be directed specifically to the Dangote Refinery: Pay the subsidy directly to Dangote. This would prevent the ambiguities in cost and supply chain logistics that have historically enabled corrupt practices.
2. Regular Auditing for Transparency: Independent auditors should be appointed to review the refinery’s production statistics, monitoring fuel output and verifying data on a continuous basis. This oversight will ensure that production figures are accurate, subsidy allocations are well-founded, and funds reach their intended use without diversion.
3. Reduced Prices for Nigerians: By applying this targeted subsidy approach, the price of fuel can be managed and made more affordable for the public, alleviating the current financial strain on citizens. This could serve as a short-term relief while more sustainable energy solutions are explored.
This structured, transparent, and locally controlled subsidy system can eliminate corruption, support the Nigerian economy, and ease our sufferings.

KEVIND: All this sad.ist that are wondering how Obi keeps on soaring high & donating hundreds of millions to the public. Let me school you about Peter Obi. Obi was a already a billionaire in his 30s. No presents Nigeria politicians will boast of not making their fortunes from politics except Peter Obi.
Now: A little about HE Peter Obi
Obi headed a market management company that specialised in imports. He ushered in Heinz Salad Cream, Ovaltine, South African Breweries, and many more consumer brands into the Nigerian market. This is why he’s repeatedly bragged about his reputation as a “big trader”.
In the 1990s, Obi was the CEO of Next Nigeria International Ltd. He also founded the popular Next Cash and Carry which remains one of the largest indigenous retail malls in Nigeria.
By the time he became the governor of Anambra State in 2006, Obi was the chairman of 11 companies in Nigeria and abroad.
In the corporate world, Obi chaired four banks — Fidelity Bank Plc, Guardian Express Mortgage Bank Ltd, Future Views Securities Ltd, and Paymaster Nigeria Plc.
He was also a board member of Guardian Express Bank Plc, Chams Nigeria Plc, Emerging Capital Ltd, and Card Centre Plc.
“I was sitting on the board of three banks and was the chairman of one before I became a governor,” Obi said on Arise TV in 2021.
Peter Obi had major shares in the banks where he was a board member, and has invested in many more businesses over the years. remember he achieved all these before the age of 45 ooo. |

His analysis of how work-life and wages are abroad is in order, but people are still making it that's why japa is still an option till today.
It is a known fact from time immemorial that MOST people who travel abroad are financially successful. This has not changed. It's true that it equates to modern day slavery but when the money is worth it, who would not want to be the slave? When you get paid according to your work, unlike in Nigeria where people receive peanuts as wages.
Compare what teachers, drivers, etc earn in Nigeria versus what they earn elsewhere.
Why would a successful bank manager in Nigeria travel abroad to do menial jobs if it's not worth it?
A student with part time job in Canada building a mansion in Nigeria. And they say we should not japa.

SoftSport: Clout chaser!
It's quite misleading to claim that someone earning a salary between 300k and 500k is poor.
Such statements seem designed to sensationalize issues and undermine the government's efforts.
While we acknowledge the economic challenges, a salary in that range can indeed provide a decent standard of living in Lagos or elsewhere in Nigeria.
It's essential to recognize the nuances of financial stability rather than reduce it to simplistic notions of wealth and poverty. How many months savings from that salary range will pay the annual rent for a 2 bedroom flat in that same Lagos.? |
