The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal who defected to the All Progressive Congress, was on Thursday prevented by security operatives from entering the National Assembly Complex to preside over a special session of the House on the extension of state of emergency in some Northern states. Last Tuesday, Honorable Aminu had recalled members of the Lower Chamber from recess to consider President Goodluck Jonathans request for extension of emergency rule in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States. However, on his arrival at the National Assembly. security operatives had taken over the National Assembly complex, a move seen as aimed at preventing the Speaker from gaining access to preside over the special session. When the security operatives would not allow his vehicles in, the Speaker abandoned his vehicle and walked from the gate towards the Chamber in company of some lawmakers. At this point, the police released teargas, causing pandemonium as lawmakers including Senators scampered for safety. Reacting to this development, the speaker of Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Razak Atunwa described the action of the police as a case of lawmakers versus law breakers. Atunwa who spoke through his twitter handle ( @Atunwa_1 ) said "The police conduct at the #NASS today is a national disgrace. GEJ should bury his head in shame! He's not fit to be President. Further speaking, Atunwa said "Today at the #NASS was a case of Lawmakers vs Law-breakers (Police). Laying siege on the Legislature is the height of lawlessness. It's the beginning of descent to anarchy." Prior to adjourning plenary for one month on October 28, Tambuwal had formally announced his defection to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC). Militarization of National Assembly: Era of Dictatorship is here again..... 'To every on-looker is either a coward or a betarayer'...Without fear or favor, we totally condemn the immature action of the Presidency aim at victimizing the Speaker of House of Representative today by denying him entry into the National assembly today. This to us is totally immature, condemnable and undemocratic on the part of the supposed father of the Nation. Security operatives, Thursday, fenced the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal from entering the National Assembly Complex. Lawmakers who accompanied the speaker had to climb the second entry point gate as some who could not climb sustained injuries while trying to scale over. At about 10.54am after much entreaties the speaker was allowed entry but other lawmakers were denied entry. The speaker’s official car was detained but after his entry into the outer space of the complex, Security men barricaded him and shot tear gas carnisters into the air to scare him but the speaker stood his ground. . The speaker who got to NASS at about 10.38am was accompanied by a long convoy of cars and was allowed to pass through the outer gate entry point. We on this note advise the President to face governance and stop this dirty politics as there are lots of national issues begging for attention such as: *Insurgency in the North. *Corruption. *Unemployment and decay in the education sector.... ENOUGH OF THIS.... God bless Federal Republic of Nigeria 1 Like |
