LA Galaxy forward Robbie Keane named 2014 MLS MVP
The Ireland international won his first MVP award after posting
career highs in goals and assists for the MLS Cup final-bound
Galaxy.

LA Galaxy forward Robbie Keane has been named Major League
Soccer's Most Valuable Player after leading his club to a second-place
finish in the Western Conference.
The Ireland international finished ahead of New England Revolution
midfielder Lee Nguyen and Seattle Sounders forward Obafemi Martins
for the league's highest individual honor.
Keane finished with 30.95 percent of club votes, 32.22 percent of media
votes and 25.52 percent of player votes, giving him a weighted total of
88.69. Martins finished second with a weighted total of 63.22, while
Nguyen came in third with a weighted tally of 57.54.
In his fourth year in MLS, Keane scored 19 goals and added 14 assists in
29 appearances during the regular season. Among league leaders, he
ranked third in goals and tied for second in assists.
The Galaxy (17-7-10) finished with the second-best record in MLS. On
Sunday, LA defeated Supporters' Shield winner Seattle to advance to the
MLS Cup, where it will host the Revolution on Sunday.
Keane joined the Galaxy from Premier League side Tottenham in 2011
after a successful career in Europe. The 34-year-old is currently the
captain of Ireland's national team and became the world's leading active
goal scorer in international play upon Miroslav Klose’s retirement in
August.
Keane was named to the MLS Best XI for the third straight season earlier
this week.
