LA Galaxy forward Robbie Keane named 2014 MLS MVP The Ireland international won his first MVP award after posting career highs in goals and assists for the MLS Cup final-bound Galaxy. LA Galaxy forward Robbie Keane has been named Major League Soccer's Most Valuable Player after leading his club to a second-place finish in the Western Conference. The Ireland international finished ahead of New England Revolution midfielder Lee Nguyen and Seattle Sounders forward Obafemi Martins for the league's highest individual honor. Keane finished with 30.95 percent of club votes, 32.22 percent of media votes and 25.52 percent of player votes, giving him a weighted total of 88.69. Martins finished second with a weighted total of 63.22, while Nguyen came in third with a weighted tally of 57.54. In his fourth year in MLS, Keane scored 19 goals and added 14 assists in 29 appearances during the regular season. Among league leaders, he ranked third in goals and tied for second in assists. The Galaxy (17-7-10) finished with the second-best record in MLS. On Sunday, LA defeated Supporters' Shield winner Seattle to advance to the MLS Cup, where it will host the Revolution on Sunday. Keane joined the Galaxy from Premier League side Tottenham in 2011 after a successful career in Europe. The 34-year-old is currently the captain of Ireland's national team and became the world's leading active goal scorer in international play upon Miroslav Klose’s retirement in August. Keane was named to the MLS Best XI for the third straight season earlier this week.
