The Governorof Osun State ,Mr RaufAregbesola has said that the emergence of former Head of State, Gen Muhammadu Buharias the presidential candidateof the All Progressives Congress is the best democraticpillto galvanise Nigerians towardsthe needed change.
He said the former Head of State is not justthe candidateof the APC but that of the entire Nigerians who have been yearningfor a dramaticand total change.
Aregbesola said the decisionby all partymen and women to elect the former head of statedemonstrates the commitment to presentinga candidatewho would not only winthe presidential electionbut goaheadto rescue Nigeria from the present quagmireanti-democratic and anti-development elements had broughther in more than a decadeand a half.
Aregbesola, in a statement bythe Director, Bureauof Communication and Strategyin the Office of the Governor,Mr. Semiu Okanlawon, was quoted asspeaking shortly afterthe declarationof Gen MuhammaduBuharias the presidential candidateof the APC after a keenly contested primaryheld in
Lagos.
“We must congratulateNigerians for the emergence of Gen MuhammaduBuharias the presidential candidateof ourparty. The excitements,commendations and jubilations that havegreetedthe electionand consequently the announcement of Gen Muhammadu Buhariare clear demonstrationsof the fact that Nigerians have been anxious and now poisedfor animmediate change in Nigeria.
“It is clearnowthat Nigerians are determined to jettisontheir religious, tribal,partisanand othermundaneinterests to rally supportfor ourcandidate.Gen MuhammaduBuhari,I can confidentlysay, is not justthe candidateof the All Progressives Congress but the popularchoice of entire
Nigerians,” Aregbesola was quoted assaying.
Reminding Nigerians of the urgent need to fix the country, Aregbesola said the outcome of the primaryelectionitself confirmedthat the APC has taken transparency,the fightagainst corruption and graft to a new height.
“People havechosen the best man for the job regardlessof all otherless edifyingconsiderations.Buhari represents the face of the required battle against corruption.He represents openness and commitment to goodgovernance.For thosewho consider the awfulimpact of corruption onour
country,the choice of Gen Buhari would easily translate tothe readinessof Nigerians to battle againstthe most debilitating scourge againstthe country’s growth,”Aregbesola said.
Listingthe challenges that lay before anAPC government at the centre, Aregbesola reminded Nigerians that the 16 years of the PeoplesDemocratic Partyatthe centre has spelteconomic doom,politicalcomplicationsand socialmorass.
“We havewitnessed the most horrendouscrimes againstthe soul of this country.There has been a mindless rape of the country by a gang of looters who have madeNigeria a laughing stock in the comity of othernations.
“There is needless hunger in a country withmany untapped opportunities.All the critical sectors have been bled to states of comaand what we haveleftasa country is fracturedentity gaspingfor breath.
“With the electionof General MuhammaduBuhari, Nigerians are assured that a new Nigeria is possible,” he added.
