The world's most popular blogging platform, WordPress was hit by a mysterious malware of Russian origin called 'SoakSoak' .Experts believe that this could have infected almost 100,000 pages. The first security firm to spot the malware: Sucuri, said the attack was launched by soaksoak.ru, from which its name was derived and could have infected about 100,000 sites.Google has taken a step in the hope of stopping it from spreading by blacklisting over 11,000 websites that are infected withwith the malware. The problem appears to have begun with a plugin called RevSlider which Sucuri earlier said could be vulnerable.The plugin is a premium software meaningthat it will be hard for many users to get ridof the problem. According to Daniel Cid from Sucuri, some site owners are not even aware of it as it has been incorporated into their themes.The internet security firm, Sucuri,runs a free site checker which will scan any webpage to see if it has been infected withany malware including soaksoak.If the page shows issues, Sucuri recommends deleting two files —swfobject.js and template-loader.php — which will get rid of the initial infection, butwill still leave the website likely to be infected.Internet security firms such as Sucuri offer website firewalls that ensure that a page is protected from attacks.
