I am neither a doctor nor psychologist but I do know that they have another spirit in them. They don't know they're mad while still in the process. A mad person becomes normal the day he knows he's insane.

I think some do know that are but not always!
They act in a normal way to them!
One thing that is sure is that, their thinking isn't thesame as the normal human being!

Let's make an analysis. When you get high on alcohol, you start misbehaving and whilst you're misbehaving, you don't know anything like where your phones are, your wallet, you can't even control your movement. So that gives a simple insight about the situation of a deranged fellow. Some inflict wounds on themselves that they would not do ordinary too.

However the best way to know is by becoming mad temporary ofcourse or better still we can ask a mad person.

Merry Christmas!

The answer to your question lies in the word "insight''. Simply put, insight is the ability for you to know you have a problem and where the problem is. For example, if you're ill with malaria - you will have symptoms such as fever, headaches, malaise, body pain, vomiting etc. By the presence of your symptoms you will know you are ill and that you need help. This is insight.

The people we call 'mad' have a psychiatric disease-most commonly it's schizophrenia. These psychiatric disease (like malaria) has symptoms like hallucinations, delusions and disorders of thought etc. When a 'mad' person is aware of these problems, it means he has insight and it is a potent indicator of a better prognosis.

On the other hand, lack of insight in a psychiatric patient spells doom.

In essence, what I'm saying is a 'mad' person can be aware that he has a mental problem. And this is good. because treatment would be easy. A 'mad' person can also not be aware of his OR her condition. This spells bad prognosis.

The main problem is we don't even have health facilities to take care of the health needs of psychiatric patients to even know whether they have insight into their problem or not.

Pathetically, the level of orientation of the general public to psychiatric conditions is appalling. People discriminate and look down on mental patients. Mental patients may be aware of their problem. They just need help and support.
