(CNN) - AirAsia Flight 8501 has lost contact with air traffic control in Jakarta, Indonesia, a crisis center for the airline said Sunday. The flight was on its way from Surabaya in Indonesia to Singapore, according to the airline's website. The plane left Surabaya Juanda International Airport at 5:27 a.m. Sunday (4:27 p.m. Saturday ET) was due to arrive in Singapore at 8:37 a.m. (7:30 p.m. Saturday, ET), according to the website. There are 162 people aboard the Airbus A320-200, Hadi Mustofa, an official of the transportation ministry told Indonesia's MetroTV, according to The Associated Press. "At the present time we unfortunately have no further information regarding the status of the passengers and crew members on board, but we will keep all parties informed as more information becomes available,"the airline said. "At this time, search and rescue operations are in progress and AirAsia is cooperating fully and assisting the rescue service," the statement said. The Airbus 320-200 can carry up to 246 passengers, according to the company's website. |

The worst that can happen is for a plane to get missing and never be found. It is not better for it to crash and the bodies and probably survivors and black box be found than for both the plane and the passengers to go missing and never be seen? This is so scary honestly! 1 Like |
