Why do people make new year resolutions and how effective are they?

Personally I think that new year resolutions don't work because of lack of commitment from those who make then. Becoming a better person takes discipline, determination and diligence, this should be part of our life all year round. It's not just something we resolve to do on new year day,we should also resolve to be committed to our resolutions.

I broke my 2014 new year resolution on the 4th, of January. These resolutions are easy to say, but keeping to it is another ball game.

Everyone want to be a better person and a fresh year gives that opportunity.
