While I was learning more about marketing, one of my respected mentor advised me on how to be focussed on a particular market and fully utilise the potentials and reaping the benefit of it. In other words, "targeting a particular market" means "Niche Marketing".

Now what is Niche Marketing and does it applies to the Nigerian Businesses and Markets?

Niche marketing is a kind of marketing strategy where you focus your efforts concentrating on a particular (profitable) market with tight or little competition from other competitors with the aim of making profit from that business venture.

In the offline world, there are lots of profitable businesses or markets where one can get in and become a success reaping huge gains from it. So also is the online world too. It all depends on how you go about it and becoming an expert or a full fledge business tycoon.

I shall be continuing this series later bringing to light the necessary essentials required to be a success growing your business and staying strong profiting from it. These secrets are closely-guarded ones and you just have to stick with me to learn how it's been done.

By now, I know you are really eager to know which profitable business you want to get into. I tell you, there are lots and lots of them out there that requires small capital except for the capital-Intensive ones… Don’t worry, whichever is your choice and focus, I’ve got you covered!

Okay, before we continue, I’d like to digress a little on the basic principles required with which you can create unending wealth and cash flow. The basic principle of any profitable business venture is the bedrock on which your unlimited wealth will be built upon. Your success in any business venture (either online or offline) simply lies in your ability to understand and follow these simple principles.

The principles I am going to share with here are the same principles I have used to grow my business. It gave me focus and direction; these principles also removed “guess work” and the pitfalls of any business venture. You will be more confused if you get into any kind of business (either online or offline) without focus. This principle will give you focus and tell you what to do.

In any business, you are faced with the challenges of
1. How to find and keep the right customers for your goods (products) and services.
2. How to increase the number of your customers
3. How to make your customers buy your goods (products) often to increase sales.
4. How frequent those customers come to do business with you.

The way you master and overcome these challenges differentiates your business from the rest.

When starting any business venture, your first task is not to develop a product or service to sell, hell NO! You don’t have to rush to stocking up goods for sale simply because others are selling it or that it is the “in-thing” selling at the moment… No, No, No! it’s not a good start. It is not what you sell that matters (anything can sell ONLY with the right customers who are in need of that goods (products) or service).

Your first assignment is to look for what people want and give it to them. This sounds very simple but that is it. You have to be sure of the area you want to play in and this is what I was talking about. Remember “niche marketing” I talked about in the first post? Yes, that’s what I’m talking about. You have to find a Niche (target market) if you want to get rich and wealthy!!

Sorry I have been away for a long time due to some business engagements. Back to our "long-dropped" disccussion on how to find a better market to succeed in Nigeria. Like I said, we will be looking at using the 4ps for sucessive business environment.

Now what are the 4ps to establishing a viable business in Nigeria. First of all, let me delve on a particular issue that most of us have been ignoring. When I'm done, you will be able to draw up conclusions on why the 4ps are important in establishing a business.

Look around you. Have you noticed the activities that goes on in our everyday life. Everyone's running from one place or the other either looking for an opportunity or hoping some "luck' will befall them. Well, all this ends up to satisfying a particular "NEED". Do you get it? Everyone wants to satisfy their need in one way or the other. What about corporations, organisations, firms, business bodies and the rest of them? A Need is meant to filled or satisfied either materially, financially, emotionally, spiritual, etc.

I hope you're following. You see, money is what truly makes the world go round and without it, you're either stagnant or dumb-founded (sorry for the strong language). What if you can find a "need" and fill it? How do you go about it? Loads! It takes some brain-storming researches to know what people are looking for and how they want their need to be met or satisfied. Now you're looking at a hungry market that is willing to pay you whatever amount you're asking. It's that simple. Have you noticed the danfo drivers of our time? When they come to an agreement about their transpot fares, it's either you pay or you're left stranded. Simple!!! That's a need that have been met and money made out of it (I'm not saying you should deliberately make merchandise of people).

So you get what I'm saying? So what is the 4ps to establishing a viable and profitable market especially in Nigeria. I will briefly enlist them now,

1. Place: This refer to the niche/target market that is hungry for a particular product so they can satisfy their need. What are the hot niches in Nigeria? They are fashion, movies, music, comedy, jobs, food, transportation, accomodation, etc. You get the gist?

2. Product: What are the products available that will be readily needed by these hungry markets. You just have to research it and find a good/hot product for them. Could be a physical product, information product or something that's selling hot which relates to that market you're targeting e.g recharge cards business.

3. Packaging: You know without good packaging, a particular product will lose its strenght in the market especially those that are in stiff competition. That's why Big companies are spending Big Money to package their product(s) so as to "stay' in the market. Package your product or business in such a way that it will be attractive to the consumers and surely you'll make BIG money.

4. Present: How do you present your business or products to the world to see? There are strategies that have worked well for many. Presentation could be in different forms. What advertising medium can you use? Print or newspaper media? or maybe you just want to run a small enterprise but the way it will look to your customers will determine your profitability.

Well, I've exhausted my brains on this. I guess i've been of a little help. After researching for a particular hot topic, (maybe through search engines like Google.com or by navigating through the forums on a particular topic or niche you're interested in. Let me help you out with this, The most profitable niches in Nigeria right now are (1) ICT (GSM business), (2) The entertainment industry (i.e music and movies), (3) job vacancies, etc,

The next thing is to source for your information as regard what to come up with and start a business on that. And remember, when setting up a business maybe that of GSM Business, Capital is involved. Maybe you want to start selling Laptops, you can research that area, make inquiries and come up with a business plan as to how to set-up that business coupled with the Capital involved.
