ASABA—Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State, yesterday, told Nigerians to shun provocative utterances and actions capable of creating tension in the country.

Speaking at the launch of the 2015 Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem Appeal Week in Asaba, Uduaghan stressed the need for Nigerians to embrace dialogue.

The governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Comrade Ovuozourie Macaulay, said: “The occasion requires everyone to reflect on the need to avoid violent conflicts in the society by doing everything possible to promote peace and harmony.”

Enjoining the people to be fervent in prayers to God, so that the present security challenges facing the country do not escalate, Uduaghan called for prayers for “other countries in the world that are currently suffering from insurgency.”

According to him, “The week-long programme which started today (yesterday) is designed to accord the armed forces the honour they deserve for their sacrifices to their fatherland. We are gathered here to appreciate the sacrifices made by members of the Nigerian Armed Forces in the two World Wars, the Nigerian civil war, other regional conflicts and the current fight against insurgency.

“It is pertinent that we use this period to reflect on the need to avoid future violent conflicts in the society by doing everything possible to promote peace and harmony at all times. I exhort all Nigerians to embrace dialogue and abstain from provocative utterances and actions that will create tension in the country as we prepare for the general elections.”
