Buying and selling in the popular Ladipo vehicle spare parts market in Lagos were halted on Monday as the state government shut it again for constituting environmental hazard.

The operation was carried out by officials of the environmental task force, Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), and Mushin Council.

KAI Marshal General, Danjuma Meigeri, said the closure was on the orders of Environment Commissioner, Muiz Banire, backed by Governor Babatunde Fashola.

He expressed displeasure over the failure of the traders to honour the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) they signed with the government in 2006 before the market was re-opened after it was sealed off by the Bola Tinubu administration.

"There has been a series of warnings, besides we had an agreement with them regarding the state of the environment in 2006; and when you do so, the ideal thing is for both parties to keep to that agreement.

"We do not even need to serve them any notice, because once you default, you have failed on your promise," Meigeri stated.

According to him, sanitation in the market has been relegated to the background as every part, including the road sides, have been converted into trading spots, thus obstructing human and vehicular movements.

He said the government will not fold its arms and watch the market turn into an epidemic zone, and warned that it will not be re-opened until the dealers comply with the environmental laws.

He also wants them to show evidence of tax payment.

The market was under the surveillance of security personnel on Monday.

When it was shut two years ago, Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State had to plead with Tinubu to get it re-opened.

angry I don't know why the govt of lagos state takes so much interest in punishing The Igbo indigenes. My question is this: why must Fashola and his cronies shut a market that feeds thousands of people a few days to xmas? It has become a tradition since the days of Tinubu, his god father. Fashola and his agents knows that Ladipo market is 99.9% Igbo dominant. Every time, They will hide under one flimsy excuse or the other to punish the Igbo man. Jos killings, igbos and their houses and shops, Computer village, Igbos, Ladipo market, Igbos. Why Igbos all the time for Christ sake?. If All Ndi Igbo are to withdraw their mandate and if public votes are to count , Tunde fashola cannot smell close to Alausa. We know we are endangered species in this entities called Nigeria, but no matter what, we must surely survive, afterall our fathers survived the Biafran war
