A loss by Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan in general elections next month may be viewed “positively” by foreign investors and probably won’t rattle markets, according to Jim O’Neill, former chairman of Goldman Sachs Asset Management.http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2015-01-08/o-neill-says-jonathan-vote-loss-may-be-seen-as-nigeria-positive.html 59 Likes 8 Shares |

There are loads of investors who want to come into Nigeria but they don't really see the government. They expect the government tl be serious in things like security and power supply which is something that is needed tl trigger economic growth but we seem not to care about them. I am still here wondering why we have no private refineries yet or why our public refineries are not working well 192 Likes 4 Shares |

vanunu:Wrong. I support removal of subsidy but inna country like Nigeria where public officers are not know for being accountable, I suggested it was continued and the reason is simple. The subsidy is the only way the people fells like the government is doing anything reasonable for them. When the subsidy was removed(even partially), how has the money affected the people? What has changed? What has happened to the money saved? How has the money affected the man on the street? We were told there will be palliatives and some silly buses where are they? Have you rode one before? Do you know someone who has? If the money saved form the partial removal was used to fix just one refinery it would have been better. What has been done with the money? Throughout the oil boom of last year what was done with the excess funds? Did we build or fix our refineries? Did we use the money to fix our power supply or make our society more secured. The subsidy removal will have no effect on Nigerians due to corruption so why not just leave it as it was the only way it would benefit the common man. That is economics a government should look at not some economic theory that will end up a failure 321 Likes 36 Shares |

There are too many Harvard trained economists in Nigeria who want to bring foreign economic theories which were fashioned in places that is not Nigeria. Our economic policy must be suited for us. We have to find a way to tweak then to suit Nigerian and not say because it worked in America, it will work here. That is false. If we should borrow economic policies, lets borrow from nations that have similar problems. Our when coming up with policies, people who actually live in Nigeria, do business in Nigeria and walk the streets with Nigerians should be part of the think tank 70 Likes 2 Shares |

Nigeria wants investors to looks at us seriously but our issues are just too silly. We have a presidency where a lot of people in government throw jabs at a certain religion. Too much attention is paid to ethnic divisions We are simply unserious about infrastructure Power supply is a nightmare We don't have any long term economic plan I don't think people actually sit down and ask why we are this way. 41 Likes 3 Shares |

arsetalks: The major problem with the Subsidy is Corruption. The inflated figure and it is a channel of looting money. In some case the Fuel were not imported, yet payments were made. Furthermore, if our refineries are working and local consumptions are met, we will not have any need to import let alone subsidy payment. Vote GMB to correct this mess and stop the waste of resources in funding Corruption. 123 Likes 5 Shares |

vanunu:you are pissing me off sir. What is the result of the subsidy,He only caused hardship for some nigerians. He increased fuel price from #65 to #100,he promised us 1200 buses to cushion the effect in hike of petrol up till now i have never see one single buse for my state. Did he prosecute subsidy thieves like farouk lawal. Is yaradua wicked for reducing it before jonathan increased it. In kuwait petrol price is #30 and their economy is fine, venezuela the same price, libya not up to that. Susbsidy is just a scam. 29 Likes 1 Share |
