For those asking why she was not appointed the information minister, please understand that in Nigeria, the Doctors will never let that happen. Any other person can be a minister of health but not a pharmacist because they see them as rivals. The guy there now achieved nothing when he was in charge of the HIV/AIDS campaign I think that her removal from NAFDAC was ochestrated by the high and mighty whose illegal drug and food businesses have been frustrated while she was in office. The saw the lack of transparency and determination in Yar'Adua'a admin as an opportunity to remove her. Ribadu is out and Akunyili is out of the way too. The few stars have been dimmed God save Nigeria. The cabals who sponsored Yar'Adua election and opportunists have over run the country. A country where Ibori and Peter Odili reigns supreme, can anything good come out of it? As to Akunyili, I do not know what to say yet until I see how she will defend the Govt's evil activity. They only want to use world acceptance to launder Nigeria's image but you cannot launder a dirty image try hard as you may. I hold her very high but . . . . . |

The govt is at it again. Akunyeli has made name for herself and they just put her in Information where she will be forced to tell a lot of lies and spoil her hard earned name. If i were her, i will resign to keep my name. Now, she will act like Uche Chukwumerije etc. |

I pity for Dora Akunyili, I thought they were going to make her health minister. Telling Yar'adua's lies is the most difficult job on earth. Her reputation will either be destroyed very soon or she will have to resign when she gets fed up saying things she does not believe in. |
Re: Dora Nkem Akunyili (OFR) As The New Information Minister by landis(m): 9:27am On Dec 18, 2008 |
@Mckren, She is now one-of-them. Soon to be forgtten like others before her. @plc group The govt is at it again. Akunyeli has made name for herself and they just put her in Information where she will be forced to tell a lot of lies and spoil her hard earned name. She has a choice to politely reject it. She was not forced! Asked to react to disappointment from Nigerians who feel she was not in the right place, Akunyili replied “what I will tell them is that posting is approved by God, nothing happens without God’s approval. God wants me to be where I am today at this time and He has purpose for where I am today and I can feel it.” Already you can see what LIES Nigerians should expect from her! |

This is a HORROR! They will practically destroy Dora Akunyili. I hope she has the wisdom to REJECT the offer. The issue is WASNT A THIRD TERM BETTER FOR THE FORMER PRESIDENT than this downward spiral? I'm really wondering? |

Well if she accepts it, lets see what happens I will check the details of the job description for information minister Its possible she will concentrate on managing our ICT and how it affects Government activities, rather than being the mouthpiece of the Presidency. I beleive the President already have a spokesman and press secretary. |

If she reject it,they will look at her as ungreatful and treat her as another Ribadu It will be very unwise for her to reject it cos u wudn't want to know wat they'll do to her. |
Re: Dora Nkem Akunyili (OFR) As The New Information Minister by landis(m): 10:26am On Dec 18, 2008 |
Muza: she can reject politely. it is that simple. She does not own them; YARADUA or pdp anything unless she has DARK things in her days in NAFDAC. Let wait and see what becomes of her in 2011. we know many before her; where are they now? Chukwumerenje, EbinoTops, Onagoruwa, etc |
Re: Dora Nkem Akunyili (OFR) As The New Information Minister by SegzyJoe(m): 10:38am On Dec 18, 2008 |
@post She should just resign and go back to the university. There will always be another opportuity to serve, this government is less than 3yrs away, she should not go down with such a discredited government. Very soon, another administration will be here, am sure they will be looking for her to serve again. This information ministry is not compactible with her personality, she will have to do many things she would not want to do. Am covinced Yar Adua is not in charge. |

I SEE A BANANA PEEL ON A VERY SMOOTH FLOOR. I SEE A HEFTY WOMAN BLINDFOLDED WITH APRON BEING TOLD BY A KING TO MOVE AHEAD. THE ONLY THING NOW IS FOR THE WOMAN TO CONSULT GOD'S WISDOM FOR RIGHT DECISION. OUTSIDE THAT, SHE WILL BLINDLY STEP ON THE PEEL, UUUUUUUSH! HER FALL WILL BE TERIFFIC. HMMMMMM, THIS IS A PLOT TO GROUND A HEROINE. |

And I was looking up ti her to take the post of VP when the Ibo's get their slot for presidency; They just want to destroy her reputation; I dont think she can refuse the appointment; the cabal will finish her politically; I think the nigerian state is against the female gender; anyone of them that seems to outperform; they find a way of getting rid, |

Shame on Yar'adua for appointing someone like Dora Akunyili as Information minister. If he had no use for her as a minister, why not just let her continue with her work at Nafdac ? Another thing that puzzled me was the appointment of Rilwan Lukeman as the new oil minister. Yar'adua is not ready to move the country forward |

reality4us: “we will tell the truth at all times” but with responsibility, Dora Akunyili This quote by her is just a soft landing for the future. She is begining to sound like Government. The "truth" I doubt if she will be able to say that again. I think she should not make the same mistake Nuhu Ribadu made when the world expected him to resign soon as it became obvious baba was using him and today his supporters are divided over his current travails inspite of his tall achievements. |

Even though I disagree with this appointment, but when I think of the Communication aspect of the job, I remembered GSM in Nigeria, Internet Connections, Saterlite/Terestial Televisions etc and their rates, tarrifs, services, especially GSM and Internet Providers, then I see hope of better services ahead. Let us pray for her. |

is anything wrong with this govt - each administration is the same!!! I have lost all hope (nearly). Nigeria is gradually degenerating to failed state status. when yardua cannot even assign ministers with common sense - what hope is there to have. in response to nkem akunyilis response to the appointment - public office is not a place for first time hands on training for your skills - only time tested people in that field should be appointed |

At this point Madam NAFDAC is confused by saying “I believe that God will give me the skill to present it successfully; after all when I went to NAFDAC, I did not know anything about NAFDAC. But I wanted to succeed,” How can someone with a bachelors degree in pharmacy and a doctorate degree in pharmacology in UK as noted not have a clue of what the NAFDAC is all about. Where she's now is a different game entirely, i guess she hasn't seen the handwritting on the wall , She is about to be manipulated in the midst of these I pray she sees the "tommorow" of this appiontment Amazing Reads: 24 ELDERS WORDS OF KNOWLEDGE FOR LADIES IN RELATIONSHIPS After Aborting 3 Times For Him, He's Set To Marry Another Lady This Month. |

Re: Dora Nkem Akunyili (OFR) As The New Information Minister by debosky(m): 12:32pm On Dec 18, 2008 |
I'm disappointed - if anything, she could have been made the 'junior minister' or Minister of State for Health, instead of this information and communications nonsense. Why were the two roles merged in the first instance? If she was made a minister of communications on it's own, then maybe we'd say she would sanitise that sector. The truth is, she will be the mouth piece of a government we are not sure has anything good to offer - she will not have freedom to say what she wants, she will simply have to toe the official line on issues whether true or false. I am highly disappointed in her - did she have to 'serve' at all costs? Is that why she accepted this type of position? What happened to the previous age of appointing qualified women to fill appropriate roles? Yar'adua has done the opposite of OBJ - first appointing a Geography graduate to the ministry of finance, now (potentially) wasting Dora's abilities in this ministry. Whither Nigeria? |

i am very surprise to see Dora heading Information. I am very sure this government will only use her for the purposes of spreading good of the government to the international community and nothing else. i also agree with my other forumites who opined that may be its the drug dealers who worked it out for them to have their way - watch out for fake drugs pls. |

I think the information and communciation ministry is a strategic post. If she was there we would not have lost $500 million for the ill fated satellite in space. You guys are funny. After Oil and Gas the next big thing in Nigeria is Telecoms. We need all the info and communication as a Nation. You really need to know how ignorant and ill informed we are as a nation. We just play catch up all the time. My advice to her is to ensure the delivery of super broadband service all across Nigeria. We need it in all sectors especially Education. One day i hope my village primary school would be able to have access to free and excellent materials outhere. For the university student, you would be able to download ebooks, references. Lastly, its going to create jobs like no other. Please look at the brighter side of it. No yahoo yahoo. No porn in school laptops. |

Over 90% of the posts have read on this thread are saying altmost the same thing. Let me enlightnen some of you a bit. In the civil service structure ministers are politicians irrespective of the ministry. Each of the ministries have technocrats in the name of 'Directror General' who is sitting at the downstream implementing govt policy. Prof Dora, was NAFDAC DG, and by that she was proactive implementing policy of Government on Drug and Food Administration. Immediately she was tipped for a ministerial appointment any stern political onlookers should know, prof is needed for politics and not for any technical work per se. So wether prof is in health, info, finance etc she can do her work. None of he criteria of selecting a minister stipulate your have to own a degree in the area your ministry is responsible for. All those thinking prof should be in Health or somewhere else are thinking inside the box. Think Outside the Box pls! Yar-ardua is a genius, watch it.!! Prof has all the aura, charisma, and good public image to sell Govt Info to anyone in the country going be her antecedent. I will make her Information Minister 1000 times if am a president. |
