GEJ is not a good leader. He talks before he thinks most of the times.

“When one carefully peruses the capital budgets of the DHQ and Army, most of the capital spending is going towards buildings, some ammunition and vehicle spares.

This year, we are not buying any equipment for the armoured, artillery and other mechanisation needs of the Army – at least not anywhere in the budget".

How can a president who has been facing insurgency problem since 2009/2010 think he can defeat it if modern hardware are not purchased? They chose to spend large chunk of security budget on buildings and military infrastructures where it is easy to be looted than purchasing needed hardware to tackle the insurgency perhaps with the hope that miracle will make it disappear; or just for some other political gains.

The clueless president, without doing any findings, or just to score cheap political points was busy accusing those who ruled before him for the state of our military institution whereas those leaders performed better than him in providing military hardware which are what you need to defend the sovereignty and integrity of a nation.

“Buhari/Idiagbon in 1984 also allocated 38.68 per cent and 61.32 per cent for capital milex and recurrent respectively. They spent approximately 16 months".

It will be an unforgivable mistake for Nigerians if this man called GEJ is not kicked out with the February 14 election.

Buhari ruled about 29 years ago, Do you expect our army to still use those outdated weapon , you are not educated
Sorry bro.
Since you apparently are more educated than I, let me just tell you this;
The present crop of T55 tanks that Nigeria and BH uses were produced between 1957 and 1983 and are still in service today!
The AK47 variants we use were made between 1949 and 1980s and still militaries across the world carry them.
Cold war nuclear stockpiles are still as effective today as they were in the 60s. ICBMs as deadly today as when they were made.

I could go on and on but suffice to say that weapons are not food products with NAFDAC expiry dates of 3-6yrs.

If you make the argument for lack of maintenance and need to modernise and bring in smart capabilities into our arsenal, then I would have given you audience.

Couples with our non-maintenance culture and non challant attitude..besides i dont think a weapon of 29years would sufficiently stand against a modern one.. thus is not an excuse.. the only person taking us back in this country is jonathan.. why would he be arguing with a government that was ousted over 30years ago and making comparisms with that government.. of course no matter how bad things are with this government, it would still be better than a govet of 3 decades ago if not for one thing but for the fact that the world is technologically advancing.. Chief, do you not realize that 1984 was a long time ago? All the peacekeeping we've been going to, which equipment have we been using? Serria Leone, Liberia, Sudan etc. And FYI, some of the Alpha jets bought during that time are still up and running. This I know for a fact. The jet that "disappeared" in Adamawa some time ago was one of them. If you don't believe me, Google is your friend.
Bros, the Apache attack helicopter, the flying tank of the US military was introduced in 1983!
Much has not changed in the design except modernization of its avionics and weaponry.

The alpha jet of which we operate about 24 units were in production as at 1991.

France and other countries are still flying alpha jets today so why should Nigeria throw hers away because it was bought in 1984?

Lol, I elect not to trade insults on this forum with you but one thing is clear, weapons bought in 1984 cannot just disappear into thin air because they are old. Heck, even the US uses the Abrams Tank as its MBT. Note that the Abrams was designed between 1972 and 1979, then entered service in 1980.
The ones being used in Iraq today date from the 80s till present. Other countries even scramble for desert storm leftovers!

In sane climes this would be ignored but I have chosen to reply it.
How do one tackle an issue when faced with it? And in this case, Boko Haram menace. One have to first understand there modus oparadi and methods before rushing to grab a rifle.
If structures that would facilitate proper training and teachings that would aid the understanding of modern warfare/crisis is put in place, it would help to reduce the number of casualty on the part of the military.
If the money approved for the defense goes towards this means, am totally in agreement with it. After all, what is the essence of having too many rifles only for our men and women to be pointed towards the wrong direction, leading to many brave soldiers dying and some surrendering their ammunitions. Our military should not be dragged into issues of politics.

Beats my imagination how people reason upside down!
If our military had all the purported weapons as is being trumpeted about, how come the same opposition is complaining the Boko Haram is better equipped than the Nigerian Military?

Boko Haram fights with IEDs, quad barreled Shilkas, Hilux mounted Anti Aircraft guns and AK47s. The APCs they use are our T-55s and others captured in raids.

So where are the ones Buhari and co bought if the above scenario plays true?
Haba! You want the Nigerian Army to still be using equipments bought 30 years ago? Even you would not use a car bought 30 years ago. Why do you want the Nigerian Army to?

Bros, we no get MIGs. What we have are alpha jets. The newer Chengdu J-7 Airguards, which were developed from the MIG-21 (perhaps that's what you were referring to) that we have were purchased by Yar'adua.

And since you said "thanks to military corruption..." don't you think a former military man (a general and head of state, no less) would have a much higher ability to curb military corruption than an academic who did not have anything to do with the military until he became it's commander-in-chief?
i asked you what came out of the ussr that invested almost all its resources on building up its arsenal; as compared to countries like singapore? bottomline is theres more to running a nation thanm just military affairs.

Capitalism is our only hope NOT fighting corruption..

BUHARI stands for quota system, socialist ideologies and most importantly as he stated in his recent campaign........SUBSIDY regime.

Do you know that weapons when outdated are decommissioned? Some are resold like tompolo buying those war ships or boats, some are donated to lesser countries like the US Navy donating war ships to Nigeria, some are kept in antiquity museums like those displayed at NAF base Kaduna, while some are destroyed. Buhari didn't buy any military armament.. He only took delivery of orders that were placed by Shagari administration before he took power..

You keep surprising me! How many wars have the Nigerian Army fought since 1984? (Remember Sierra Leone, Liberia, Niger Delta militancy, peace keeping to East Africa etc). Also, the Nigeria Army does not have any obligation to inform the public when decommissioning weapons. so as civilians, we cannot know. But what we know and have right to know is the budget which is a public document. From this budget, an analysis has been draw and you are here arguing base on sentiments! However way you look at it, the Nigerian Army cannot be using weapons bought 30 years ago. Question: do you still see these cars.
Citreon, nissan blue bird, 404? These were hot cars in those days but they are all gone. So also these archaic weapons
