It is unarguable that the media is the fourth realm in a society which makes them a significant variable in governance. More pertinent is the fact that the media is to an extent more powerful than some institution of government. this is due to nothing other than the fact that they have the capacity to control the minds and perception of the people. they also reflect the image of the country to the outside world. In lieu of this, we must agree that the media owes society the duty of upholding the ethics of journalism and to the best of their ability and feed the public with the most unadulterated information. they must also play their role as the forces of peace and unity by not publishing thing that could endanger the society. Unfortunately, PUNCH Ng has fallen short of upholding their professional ethics by delving into the murky waters of divisive politics. Whatever their motivation is, it is outrightly uncalled for and nobody should support such. The issue in question is the advert that appeared shamelessly on the front page of their newspaper of 19, Jan, 2015. The sponsor, Ayo Fayose attempted to portray the north, Muslims nd their leaders as a curse to Nigeria basing his thought on the deaths of Northern leaders in power and putting GMB as the next in line to die. It is on this premise that I call on all well meaning Nigerians to boycott punch newspaper until they tender an unreserved apology to Nigerians and GMB. They must also get Ayo fayose to do the same. We must show the owners of median houses that just as the government is answerable to the masses. so are they. Thank you. #BoycottPUNCHNG 3 Likes |

JudismphD:. Fayose commended right? when riots start and mobs begin killings, Fayose will be secured and you will be vulnerable.Even if GMB is actually ill, should that be an avenue to insult an entire region? Punch is a private firm but why do we have regulatory agencies. what happens to corporate social responsibility? So you mean if a doctor opens a private hospital, he can run it the way he likes even against the ethics of the job? |

san316:you are indeed a shameless lunatic,an extremist of the highest order,i wonder if your fanatical GMB ever wins, people will be hounded down for even talking or charting online, afterall he did it in his first regime...I dont know why am responding to a national clown like you,go and read your THE NATION newspaper,THE NEWS magazine and even the nonsensical saharareporters and see what is called rotten journalism, brown envelop journalism, where Tinubu has muscled them into 'see no evil, hear no evil'of APC.Some us has long lost faith with a section of the south-west media,it is really a big shame to journalism and posterity will never forgive them for bast*rdizing journalism in Nigeria. |
