please my brother stop fighting me, the difference between a learned man and a layman is research, so go and research. the nigerian police force is not who is DIG OR NOT, it is who entered the police force first, so onovo entered before mike and onovo is the senior.

naija politics! where was the police service commision(PSC) when mike okiro was promoted from police commisioner(lagos) to DIG. they didnt know that due process was not followed. like i said its all politics

It appears that with skewed tendency to make Ribadu a saint, the contributors are willing to say anything. Nigerian police may consider the intake period among other factors when promoting its members. However, the active duty promotion does not necessarily conform to intake period criteria. For example, two individual with same degree could join the force at this same time with rank of DSP or SP, but one might show bravery during active duty by engaging armed robbers. The individual that have shown bravery in active duty would be promoted to the rank of SP or DCP. Now if another promotion comes up, the service record of the individuals of the same rank would come into play as who gets the promotion. In case of Ribadu, the research has indicated that his active duty record has absolutely nothing to write home about.

Mike Okiro jumped from CP to DIG and was never an AIG. I am sure, you agree that is double promotion.
Ribadu was able to raise the fight of corruption to a different level, he made a few individuals scapegoats which sent shivers down the spine of our thieving politicians intent on sending us back to the middle ages.
Ribadu took on the most difficult job in nigeria- which is confronting the cancer of corruption. He made some success of it and was able to recover over $5.5 billion dollars over 5 years. Translate this to lives that can be saved, hospitals and roads that could have been built with these funds. What does he get for his hard work? demotion, harassment and humiliation.

Okiro on the other hand is reigning over a very demoralised and corrupt police and our streets that have been taken over by armed robbers. Yaradua under instructions fro his Godfather James Ibori rewarded Okiro with post of IG.

the difference is that while others were promoted by the police commission through the normal channels,ribadu was promoted by the president(obj)the case challenging his promotion in the courts will amongst other determinations, interpret what the laws say about a president either having the power to promote or not, irrespective of what the outcome would be however,ribadu being a lawyer should have maintained the status quo and donned his uniform withthe rank he was demoted to,he was given multiple chances to defend himself but hid under the fact that he had pending court cases and media soundbites and refused to honour the committee

Mike Okiro was promoted from CP to AIG due the active duty service. He was one of the rare senior police officers in the country that went on night patrol and engaged in fire fight with armed robber while as a Lagos State Police Commissioner. He was promoted from AIG to DIG based on his service record.

Police does not promote officers based on the clerical job. The EFCC duty is pure and simple a clerical everyday police job, gathering of evidence and recommending for prosecution.

The last time I checked though, Ribadu was senior police officer and erstwhile member of the alluded demoralized and corrupted Nigeria police. Ribadu has contributed more the 12 years of active service to the said demoralized and corrupted Nigeria police. If Nigerian police is corrupted, Ribadu can not be a saint.

thanks for the correction,however the same scenario doesnt apply to ribadu,ill re iterate again that this is one of the sore points the courts are yet to decide, if the president as the head of the police service commission has the power to promote any officer with fiat or not,thank GOD you said it yourself that the police service commission wasnt in existence during the time okiro got these promotions which stands to reason,he cannot be held to the laws/statutes governing the police service commission presently like ribadu,from what i have read the police service commission were NOT REPEAT NOT CONSULTED BEFORE THE WHOLEPROMOTION WENT THROUGH for ribadu which was clearly not the same with okiro

Please shut up if you dont have anything serious to discuss. You are too ignorant of Police top hierarchy appointments to open this thread. Appointment of the IGP is the sole prerogative of the Commander-in-chief. During the IBB era, AIG Mohammadu Gambo was advanced over and above DIGs Chris Omeben and Parry Osayande ( Present Chairman Police Service Commission). The two DIGs were subsequently retired. Untill then, promotion to IGP was fairly by seniority, but upsets existed, especially where pedigree and other issues were in consideration. I used the words FAIRLY BY SENIORITY as it is practically impossible to continue to promote police entrants at the same pace to the apex. Why then do we have only six DIGs? You would be surprised that the mates of these DIGs might still be in the ACP cadre or lower. Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, the outspoken former Lagos Compol had earlier lamented that he was the same set with Musiliu Smith, then IGP and was stagnated for sundry reasons.
Nobody should begrudge Okiro his successful captainship of the Police Force nor Onovo his recent elevation. The Case of Ribadu is inconclusive. He did not, like Onovo did, bow to his superiors. He remained intransigent and paid for it! shaw!
