The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere,
on Tuesday said the implementation of the 2014
Confab report remains the priority of the group
and would support the presidential candidate
that is committed to its implementation.
Specifically, the group said in a communiqué
issued at the end of its meeting in the residence
of its Leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti in Akure,
Ondo State, that it rejects in its entirety any
person or group of persons that were against the
convening of the confab in the first instance.
In the communiqué read to journalists by the
Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Mr Yinka
Odumakin, the group noted that the confab
report laid the foundation for freedom for Nigeria
nations and the restructuring of the nation’s true
federalism.
The group said it was clear that those who did
not support the convening of the National
Confab would not be committed to the
implementation of the report.
“Älso, we want to emphasise that the change
that Yoruba wants is that one which supports
restructuring of the country in such a way that
each section of the country can develop at its
own pace.
“It is clear that those who boycotted the
National Confab, who do not see what is good
about it cannot support the implementation of its
outcome. Afenifere would reject this person or
group of persons and the organisation they
represent. Anybody that does not believe in the
report of the constitutional conference should be
rejected,” Afernifere stated.
The group therefore called on all Yoruba to vote
for the presidential candidate who is committed
to the full implementation of the 2014 Confab
report to the letter.
“The 2014 national conference has become a
campaign issue. Anybody that did not participate
in it or does not believe in it does not love our
people. They want to drag them into slavery.
With the report of 2014, we believe we have
crossed Jordan, we are yet to get to the
Promised Land but we should not be sent to
Egypt”.
