[size=20pt]Nigeria: Jigawa Polio Free for 2 Years - Emir[/size]

The Emir of Dutse and chairman of the North-West Zone Committee on Polio Eradication, Alhaji Muhammadu Nuhu Sunusi, yesterday said that Jigawa State has not recorded any new polio case in the past two years.

The emir made the statement while flagging off the January round of polio vaccination in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital.

He said concerted efforts of the state government, traditional institution and all critical stakeholders have played a great role in tackling the disease.

Sunusi warned traditional leaders in all emirates in Jigawa, against attitudes that could hamper efforts in eradicating the disease.

He also urged politicians to speak to the electorate on the importance of vaccination.

Director General of Gunduma Health Services, Tahir Usman, called on political office holders and top government officials to lend support through sensitisation.
