300,000 American lives were lost to terrorists? shocked when and how, never knew that America ever suffered that high a casualty rate after wwII. Not even Korea and Vietnam combined but they lost that many to terrorists
Wow!! shocked
Always knew you were delusional, just never knew to what extent.
Besides, isn't smeagol supposed to be an evil Genius? undecided

Besides, what is it with republicans ensuring anything?
Besides running the American economy into massive deficit and flouting human right laws ala' extraordinary rendition, guantanamo, water boarding e.t.c what did they actually ensure?
Wasn't it the Democrats who scored the symbolic victory of killing bin laden?

It is 3,000 not 300,000 even a dumb Jonathan would have easily spotted an auto correct error. Guess Jonathan is even smarter than most people calling for change.

The Democrats campaigned for immediate troops withdrawal from Iraq, on getting there, they ended up increasing the number of troops. I won't really go into details why it happened that way to maintain the sanity of the thread.

If E commerce is Jonathan's achievement, then we will kill Elephant for OBJ who provided the platform it runs.

I am yet to see the "IROKO " in the forest of Jonathan’s achievements. it won't be long before you guys will mention Nairaland as Jonathan's achievement.

In my opinion, he has done more harm to e commerce, Jonathan has introduced collection fee in all post offices for Ali express users even goods that the Chinese Government paid its freight, how does that encourage e-commerce?

How is Jonathan supporting Konga and Jumia? are they tax free? Dont you know that the Chinese government pay freight for some goods you see on Alibaba. com?

Backward Nigerians, even Jonathan's shaved armpit is an achievement.

Has Jonathan provided a guarantee platform like Escrow for Konga and Jumia users.
Trust me, Jonathan has not even heard of e commerce in his life.

Why asking a question that the answer to most of us is obvious.

In 2003 the last year of Obj first tenure according to transparency international we were 2nd (no. 132 of 133 ) most corrupt country in the world. In 2007 the last year of Obj second tenure we were in no. 147 out of 179 and in 2014 we are in no. 136 of 179. So in GEJ tenure so far we have moved 11 points up the ladder of less corrupt countries.

GEJ may not be fighting corruption the way Obj did but he is definitely winning the war against corruption. Beside Obj's anti-corruption crusade never yielded meaningful result other than political bullying and intimidation.

Facts don't lie and though some may live to forget yesterday others don't.

Yesterday evening I went to swim and I met a government contractor lodged in the same hotel.

He does not want GEJ back. His grouse with GEJ is that since he came, he is no longer making money the way he was making from contracts. He confirmed that though his money now comes straight into his account without interference, that he preferred the pre-Jonathan era when things were not as tight. That now, they check the validity of any contract before money is paid out and the guy dey fall hand for business.

Then I asked him what do you think in his performance in Agriculture(Adesina), he said he has done well
I mentioned Aganga(Trade and investment) he said very well. he said NOI has done well too and went ahead to add the minister for works mike Onolememen. He said the man has done well too. Transport, he is impressed

And I asked, why won't you vote for him since you know all these? He said, he is not feeling him in his business. He wants things to go back to easier ways.

I told him about Sam Ohuabunwa's opening statement in his article where he said that good performance means different things to different people. He was a typical example of people who want him out because his reforms have reduced undue profit.

GEJ is fighting a hydraheaded monster. God is his strength

‘Nigeria Lost $7.92bn To Corruption In One Year

A total of $7.92billion in illicit capital flowed of out Nigeria in 2012, according to the latest report released by the US-based non-profit research and advisory organisation, Global Financial Integrity (GFI).

For the year 2012, only Nigeria and South Africa are the two African countries ranked in the top 20 countries for illicit financial outflows. Nigeria was ranked 17th behind South Africa, which ranks 9th with cumulative illicit financial outflows of $29.13 in 2012.

According to the report, “Illicit Financial Flows from Developing Countries: 2003-2012,” emerging economies lost a whopping $991.2billion in facilitating crime, corruption and tax evasion.

However, in the 10-year period between 2003 and 2012, Nigeria was ranked 10th with a cumulative of $157.46billion, surpassing South Africa which was ranked 12th with a cumulative $122.14billion. Also, Nigeria and South Africa are the only two African countries that were ranked for illicit financial outflows in the 10-year period between 2003 and 2012.

“The fraudulent mis-invoicing of trade transactions was revealed to be the largest component of illicit financial flows from developing countries, accounting for 77.8 percent of all illicit flows, highlighting that any effort to significantly curtail illicit financial flows must address trade mis-invoicing,” said the report.

More from: http://leadership.ng/news/395733/nigeria-lost-7-92bn-corruption-one-year

$157.46 in 10 years gives a yearly average of $15.746.

Therefore $7.92 in 2012 alone is less than HALF the annual average, showing a REMARKABLE progress in this federal administration's SYSTEMATIC fight against corruption contrary to the clueless and baseless propaganda and noise of the opposition.

22 state governors owing workers salaries
December 25, 2014

Secretary General of the National Union of Textile Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN), Comrade Issa Aremu, has expressed concern over non payment of workers salaries by many state governors.

Speaking with newsmen in Kaduna at the NUTGTWN meeting, Aremu described the development as a wage theft, wage robbery and economic crime.

Aremu who is the Vice President of the Nigeria Labour Congress ( NLC) said for about three months now, 22 state governors are delaying or refusing to pay salaries but paid the delegates during the just concluded primary elections across the states.

“We see that delay in payment of salaries as wage theft, wage robbery. It is actually an economic crime because Nigeria labour law says thou shall pay the worker as at when due. In fact by 22nd of every month you must have pay the workers fully.

“We never heard of any delegate being owed a single penny during the primary elections, but they cannot get money to pay the workers. In fact, some of the delegates even bought new cars and properties after the primaries because they money they got in just few days is much more than what workers earn in many months. The governors should go to the place they got they money to pay delegates and settle the workers’ salaries ,” he said.

He also said the NUTGTWN has succeeded in negotiating a 15% increase in wages for its members, making it a 35% increase in the last four years.
“This shows that the process of collecting bargaining is working in the private sector and we will like to recommend this process for the public sector because most of their crisis is on the increase of wages and salaries which has been causing endless strikes and unfavourable industrial actions,” he added.

Nigeria’s Textile Industry on a Rebound?
28 May 2013

In the mid-1980s, functional textile mills in the country numbered around 180. Employing about a million people, it accounted for over 60 per cent of the textile industry capacity in West Africa, empowering million of households across all geopolitical zones of Nigeria.
The story soon changed and the sector took a massive dive into an industrial abyss. At a point during the crisis in the sector, from about 180 thriving textile companies, the number came down to almost zero, with textile giants like United Nigerian Textile Company bowing to the pressure imposed by a profoundly mean operating environment.

The Obasanjo administration came, made promises to resuscitate the sector, but all the promises to the near comatose sector, including a commitment to bail out the sector with N70 billion at that time, ended up as mere charade and political statements.

Turnaround Phase

However, since Olusegun Aganga took over as Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, there has been a rebound in the sector. If a stakeholder is asked the question: “Has the sector arrived finally at the former position of pride and glory?” The answer will be an emphatic no. But it cannot be denied that a steady ascension has become noticeable in the sector.

In 2009, the number of functional textile mills in the country had risen to 25. Although they were not producing at maximum capacity, their production lines were turning again and people were returning to work.
Data from the Manufacturers’ Association (MAN) showed that capacity utilisation
in the surviving mills stood at 29.14 per cent in 2010 and 49.70 per cent in 2011.
The textile sector, which is a major contributor to the overall increase in industrial capacity utilisation, had its capacity utilisation rise to 52 per cent due largely to the Cotton and Textile loan, which was disbursed to more than 50 textile companies at six per cent interest rate.

The recent initiative by the Trade and Investment Ministry to enhance the revival of the textile industry through reinvestment of a 20 per cent levy on imported textile is another major step taken to reposition the industry on the path of sustainable growth.
Minister Aganga said the idea behind the levy is to promote the development of the textile sector, as boosting local production is the major objective of the ministry.
“We must diversify our economy by industrialising our country, and one of the areas we are focusing on within the next four years is the development of the textile sector as part of our industrialisation plan,” he added.

Premier beer out in 2015, says chairman

December 30, 2014

Chairman, Board of Directors, Premier Breweries Plc, Onitsha, Prince Arthur Eze, yesterday said the company would commence full stream production of beer in the first quarter of 2015.

Eze said this while addressing shareholders of the company during the 2014 Annual General Meeting, AGM, of the company for the year ended March, 2014, held in Enugu.

He noted that with the assurances of the company's technical partners and the level of re-engineering so far achieved, the company would resume its leading role in the beer production industry in the country.

The chairman said that electricity supply had been stabilised with the installation of a 500KVA generator while water supply was already in place from which the company produces the table water that was already in the market.

Eze explained that with about N1 billion share capital, the company settled a monthly electricity bill of N1 million and a salary bill of N3.4 million.
