Yamaha begins manufacturing in Nigeria

Yamaha Motor Co has announced that it will begin manufacturing in Nigeria, Africa as part of a joint agreement with CFAO S.A. According to reports, the factory will officially open its doors in mid-2015.

The new company to be known as CFAO Yamaha Motor Nigeria Ltd. (CYMNG), and Yamaha Motor and CFAO (a French company, specialized in distribution of major international brands in Africa in the Toyota Tsusho Group) are to make equal investment contributions toward a start-up capital of $1 million.

The new CYMNG factory will cover an area of 2,790 square meters will be built in Lagos, Nigeria's largest city. Scheduled to commence operation in summer 2015, the factory has a production target of 70,000 motorcycles by 2018.

In 1980, Yamaha Motor established a motorcycle factory in Nigeria that carried out manufacture and sale of motorcycles, however in 2005 the company pulled out of production due to a decline in the market - ever since Yamaha has been selling motorcycles imported from Japan or India through local dealerships. This joint venture represents Yamaha Motor's second foray into the Nigerian market.
The population of Nigeria is currently 170 million, and explosive growth in the population and economy has contributed to heightened demand for motorcycles in the region. Demand is expected to skyrocket even further, due to the fact that motorcycles are fast taking over taxis as the number one form of transportation.

Ah ah, so this one too is President Jonathan's achievement? Yamaha's announcement and a joint agreement with CFAO S.A. The thing has not even started oh, and Jonathan did not contribute 1naira. Companies and businesses/corporations come and go. There are so many multinationals in Nigeria and they have been here even during military era, PZ, Sclumberger, Mobil, Lafarge, Chevron, Total etc. how can we start naming these as government achievement? And it is even a future target, it has not yet happened. Why are achievements this scarce?

I hope you will not mind if I ignore your post as it does not reflect adequate understanding of the role federal government policies play in creating an enabling environment for businesses to operate in the country.

Perhaps when your posts reflect a minimum level of such understanding I may be willing to engage with you.
Cheers.

Enabling environment how? Multinationals have been coming in and going out of Nigeria in the various administrations since independence. Your other post said Yamaha was here since 1980 to 2005. They left during the global economic crises period and are trying to come back again. They have not even come back. Nigeria will always be a huge market because we are many(population), and we are rich spenders. This will happen in any government, it is not because of anything the present government did or is doing. In fact, the chief reasons why some people/investors were not coming was the power/electricity. Then few because of corruption as they cannot operate in the choking corruption in Nigeria. But this current administration has added security to the disadvantages. However, nigeria remains a big market and the business organisation will only need to weigh things and then decide whether he can still come or not. Enabling environment will be to solve power problems, and security challenges, and of course corruption. Making silly policies that turn us to slaves in our own country is not enabling environment. When corrupt firms especially from Asia- china, India and co come to Nigeria and they see that there is market and too good to be true terms, like treating citizens like slaves and getting away with it, bringing shoemakers to nigeria to become engineer and manager, getting away with poor safety and labour laws, no regards for best practices, they will come of course. But you will not/hardly see serious countries like Germany, Holland, Italy, Europe, America come here because they cannot work that way. It is majorly in oil and gas they can compromise because the money there is too much to miss for anything scrupulous.

You obviously know very little about the Industrial Revolution in the UK, USA and Europe a few centuries ago and more recently in China, South Korea, India etc otherwise you would not have typed what I highlighted.

As for your dogo turenci long grammar to discredit the laudable industrialisation policies of this federal administration, you are On Your Own, OYO as better informed people and organisations have a different opinion.

What i have highlighted are the realities that we face. I have not denied our growing economy so save the informed people and different opinions. I am of the same opinion, Nigeria is blessed and will be great. I have known that since forever. The point i make is that we are not large or growing because of Jonathan or any policy. We are the biggest and growing because we have a large population compared to other countries, and we are big spenders. Kindly point out the link between the Industrial Revolution and Jonathan's policy. The world has left industrial revolution for decades while you are just linking our government to it by magic in 2015. Policies of exploitation is not what we need. Bring electricity and security, fight corruption, and the right market and economy will be created, it would shock the world. I'm not impressed by the Chinese, Indians and co trooping in to make illegal gain and treat our own country men like slaves.

Corruption index: ‘Nigeria’s improvement confirms Jonathan’s anti-corruption fight’

The Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on New Media, Mr. Reno Omokri, has noted that the Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index 2014 confirmed the success of the anti-corruption fight of the president. Nigeria improve on the CPI from 144 in 2013 to 136 this year.

He attributed the success to the clinical surgical incision made by President Jonathan at the centers of corruption in the country.
“The significant improvement Nigeria has made in the 2014 Corruption Perception Index released by Transparency International is as a result of the clinical surgical incision made by President Jonathan at the centers of corruption in Nigeria.

You may recall that the Fertilizer Procurement and Distribution regime of the Agricultural sector used to be a cesspool of corruption. Billions of dollars were lost as middlemen inflated costs yet supplied subpar products to our farmers. But under the guidance of President Jonathan, 14 million farmers were registered by the Ministry of Agriculture and were connected directly to the product through the e-wallet system which allowed the ministry send texts to farmers to go and pick up their fertilizer and seeds direct from the depot. Nigeria has saved close to $2 Billion that would have gone into the pockets of corrupt officials and middlemen by this system.

Also, I am sure Transparency International took into account the fact that this administration took the unprecedented step of auditing the workforce of the Federal Civil Service and in the process weeded out fifty thousand ghost workers saving Nigeria almost 350 billion Naira per annum. Due to the President’s determination to punish this economic sabotage, those responsible have been forwarded to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for prosecution to the highest extent of the law.

It is also common knowledge that this administration has all but eliminated electoral fraud. Nigerians as well as Transparency International can attest to the fact that all elections held under the watch of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, whether the 2011 General Elections, or the elections in Edo, Anambra, Ondo, Ekiti, Osun and Niger, have been free and fair and seen to be so by the International Community.
These and other policies are the criteria that TI has used to bump Nigeria up in her ratings.

Nissan is the first vehicle manufacturer to build a car in Nigeria since the country introduced its new automotive policy.

Vehicle manufacturing companies have started building plants to make cars in Nigeria with Nissan being the first of its kind to achieve this.

“Nigeria has always been a very key market for us and I think it was a logical step to move towards. We are also building the Almera and the volumes are increasing on a daily basis. We are very pleased with the result we are getting out of the plants in Nigeria,” Mike Whitfield, managing director of Nissan South Africa told CNBC Africa.

Nissan Nigeria rolled out its first 'made-in-Nigeria' vehicles, marking a key milestone in the company's expansion plan, and gave a boost to Nigeria's automotive policy which aims to encourage local production of vehicles.

“Obviously, as one increases production levels it does produce the economics of sales and I think the process is a journey. Our objective as we continue to go forward is to improve the cost effectiveness of the vehicles manufactured in Nigeria.”

For this project to grow and improve and for the cost of these vehicles in Nigeria to be more affordable for the people, there is a need for more vehicles manufacturing companies. This will help the local industries to grow and provide better opportunity for the people by also creating job opportunities.

“First and foremost it is very important that we see as many manufacturers as possible moving and supporting the automobile policy because with that approach we will end up being able to grow the local component industry. There is an effect of that in not only job creation but also skill creation. From a Nissan objective, yes, it is our objective to move forward to ensure that we can produce a car in the Nigerian market that meets the need of the population and addresses the issue of affordability.”

He did pretty well in the educational sector as PTF chairman. Why do you think we should go back about 30years or limit ourselves to 30yrs ago or only some months of Buhari's life? What if he was never head of state, or must he be scored only on when he was head of state? i score him on his discipline, integrity and will to do right. The present administration has simply not done enough, and even the President said that if he cannot do something in 4 years, then he cannot do it if given even 100years. Even without him saying, i know his capacity. Someone who can afford to neglect all university for about a 7month stretch at once, such a fellow does not care about education.

Strange that you run out of arguments and you change the topic to Buhari. Please stick to the topic. While you are at it, kindly share pictures of the new universities built by Jonathan. Also share details of projects commenced and concluded by Jonathan in his time as President. If you are not able to do so then I take it that these are lame projects as usual.

FG, States, LGs Share N568.4 Billion for Oct

Also, $1billion was proposed for distribution to complement shortfall in expected revenue." The $1billion is a compromise by the FG over its words in September not to augment shortfalls anymore.

Responding to the presentation, the chairman of the States Commissioners of Finance and Ebonyi State Commissioner of Finance, Mr Timothy Odaah, lamented that the statutory allocation was getting smaller and smaller. "It appears this is the worst in terms of returns. This is the least in allocations as far as this year is concerned. We are mourning the dearth of funds and this is a wakeup call for states and local governments to buoy up their internally generated revenue."

While appreciating the "magnanimity" of President Goodluck Jonathan to approve the $1billion from the excess crude account and to be shared among the federal, state and local governments, Odaah expressed disappointment with the returns made by the NNPC.

He said that the states had requested for $2bn to complement for the shortfall in revenue but got only $1billion. In September, Odaah and fellow commissioners had walked out of the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF) when the federal government said that the framework of the 2013 budget was no longer realistic and it won't augment shortfall in revenue. Odaah raised issues with the statutory allocations of previous months.

Firefire:
Fellow Nigerians,

Jonathan's performance is below the high expectations of we Nigerians.

Jonathan is not proactive on the matter of security as expected.

However, Jonathan performance is on records.

- He promised free and fair election, this is already achieved. Ondo, Edo, Ekiti, Osun as evidence.

- Massive investment in power sector with full deregulation.

- Massive investment on military hardware, the first of its kind since 1960.

- Robust Economic policies,

- Massive infrastructure development, Road, Airport, Rail lines etc

- Freedom of speech, signing the FOI bill into law.

- Playing politics without bitterness

And many more developmental projects you can see if you leave bigotry.

Jonathan is the best to have happened to Nigeria at the moment.

We need 'CHANGE' but mohamod buhari is not the change.

APC missed the track in allowing a formal coup plotter as her Presidential candidate.

Nigerians, vote for continuity, vote Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan.

God bless you.

God bless Nairaland

God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Shalom

Nigeria: The 6th Fastest Growing Economy In The World - Bloomberg

Emerging markets in Asia and Africa still reign supreme: They're at the top of global growth projections over the next two years.

The world is expected to grow 3.2 percent in 2015 and 3.7 percent next year after expanding 3.3 percent in each of the past two years, according to a Bloomberg survey of economists. China, the Philippines, Kenya, India and Indonesia, which together make up about 16 percent of global gross domestic product, are all forecast to grow more than 5 percent in 2015.

By comparison, the U.S. and U.K., which combined account for about a quarter of global growth, are expected to grow 3.1 percent and 2.6 percent this year, respectively. The euro area probably will expand just 1.2 percent as European Central Bank President Mario Draghi deals with a fragile Greece and embarks on a bond-purchase program to stimulate the region's growth.

China still remains the fastest-growing G-20 nation, even though the Asian economy is no longer expanding at the pace it did a few years ago. China's economy grew 7.3 percent in the fourth quarter of 2014 from a year earlier, and is expected to slow to 7 percent in 2015.

To counter that slowdown, People's Bank of China policy makers are boosting monetary stimulus. The central bank cut its benchmark interest rate in November for the first time since 2012. This month officials lowered by 50 basis points the deposit reserve ratio, which is the amount of reserves that banks need to keep on hand.

Nigeria, Africa's largest economy, is projected to expand 4.9 percent this year, according to the Bloomberg survey. Kenya will probably grow 6 percent in 2015, even as unemployment and poverty remain stubbornly high, with over 40 percent of Kenyans living below the poverty line.

U.S. growth forecasts for 2015 are coalescing around 3 percent even as the dollar soars to its highest level in more than a decade. As growth picks up, the Federal Reserve is weighing whether to raise interest rates for the first time since 2006. Their benchmark federal funds rate has remained near zero since December 2008.

Vikkie14:
Since the inception of the terrorist onslaught in 2009, the relationship between Nigeria and US have become sore because the US had failed to supply Nigeria the "needed" weapon to suppress BokoHaram. Here are some reasons i think the bi-lateral relationship is "SEVERELY" severed.

1. PIB

Why the west is suddenly so hostile to Nigeria and is actively fighting us across the local and global media. At last i think i have it---Its the "Petroleum Industry Bill", which is with the National Assembly. If passed in its current form, all the International Oil Companies (who are mainly western) would have to settle for a much reduced take than they currently get. Meanwhile the Eastern oil Companies (China, Korea, India) are apparently itching to come in and take up those oil blocks.
They have been pressuring GEJ and his team without much success. No wonder everything the Nigerian Government does now is wrong, and they deserve no help.
I may be wrong but i cant think of any other major areas of disagreement. Hope they havent made a deal with the (presumed) incoming government.

2. EBOLA

When the 'biological-terrorist' Patrick sawyer, landed in Lagos with the mission to inflict the "incurable" ebola virus on Nigeria, it was met with stiff resistance from the medical angle. The quick period we are able to fast-track and contain Ebola is something that baffles the whole world. We added salt to the sore throat when NIGERIA WAS USED AS A GOOD "ROLE MODEL" WHICH THE WORLD SHOULD EMULATE. Don't forget also that US send medical personnel to come and study how we are able to Identify, Isolate and Insulate ebola victims within a short time.
Someone is wondering why, the word "terrorist" surface here, i may have to do a minor flashback to when the sawyer was still in Liberia. The CCTV clips shows him "avoiding" his country men at the airport in order not to infect them with the virus. But when he got to Nigeria, he was seen handshaking, 'touching' people. If you still think he is not a biological terrorist and that he doesn't have a mission, WHAT ABOUT THE AGGRESSION HE SHOW, WHEN HE REMOVED THE DRIPS AND URINATE(pee) ON THE MEDICAL STAFFs ATTENDING TO HIM AT THE LAGOS HOSPITAL?? Think again about the "Liberian-AMERICAN" patrick-sawyer.

3. LGBT right

Their gay rights issue is another one.
I have always said that, watch any government which the west disagrees with. More often than not, they are actually doing something right and beneficial for their own country--- the west is only interested in slaves it can boss around.
The same America have not so much as cared about Boko haram and over 10,000 civilians who have had their throats slits and killed, But postpone an election and all of a sudden, they are up in arms.
The rabid hypocrisy is utterly breathtaking.

4. AFRICOM

Is it also possible that we are paying for opposing the relocation of US Africa Command from Europe to Africa? Think about it, we are seen as a "threat" to their 'power grabbing' style in Africa, hence their hatred to us.
Both and many more, last black bastion of defense against the 2nd and remote colonization and scramble for africa it’ resources and market for western products,

5. ECONOMY

Nigeria is undoubtedly a regional power and economic block that would take away the western dominance. It is all about the Benjamins, it has always been that, only African have refused to get it, always looking for Help or Handout. the free things are the most expensive. later you would get the ploy behind the visa lottery and also free gift Naval ships. We should be aware that we are a "future threat" to their 'economical dominance'.
Currently, Nigeria is Africa Biggest Economy, the 3rd Fastest Growing Economy(in the world, coming behind China and Qatar), and also, Nigeria is among the MINT(the next world economy power house) country of countries whose economy will become extremely buoyant. MINT is an acronym for Mexico, Indonesia, Nigeria and Turkey. Nigeria surely is bound to be Africa Economy Hub--- a issue giving the western sleepless night.

Below is the MINT table.

This is my own opinion though.

The West is not hostile to us, neither is our relationship severely severed. They simply made a choice not to sell to us. Business is not by force. We should stop all this childish talk about the West not helping us, they don't need to in the first instance. This same government prides itself in any flimsy positive thing the West says about Nigeria or the government. If Obama says today that GEJ is handsome, they will include it in achievements point and campaign. We should stop the inferiority complex. We are allegedly an independent nation since 1960.
