The super rich have a lot to lose by abiding by religious doctrines because its not best for business while the poor have nothing to lose so they put their hopes on religion as means of salvation.

America's interest in Saudi Arabia transcends oil (which is admittedly a big factor). They need a stable and committed ally in that troubled region to maintain a firm grip there. KSA also needs the USA's protection against its enemies in the middle east.. . Not to mention the new threat posed by ISIS.

When two parties are engaged in such mutually beneficial symbiotic relationship, strict rules are bound to be relaxed and differences in values overlooked.
