Dear Nairalanders, the subject is just making the news, and I quote:

Court: No troops for elections
Posted by: Adamu Suleiman, Sokoto

A Federal High Court sitting in Sokoto yesterday 2015-01-29] ruled that it is unconstitutional for the military to be deployed for election purposes.

Justice Mohammed Rilwan ruled that other than for the purposes of protecting the nation’s territorial integrity, no constitutional provision allows for the deployment of the military for elections.

The suit challenging the deployment of military for election duties was instituted by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly, Bello Goronyo, representing Goronyo Constituency.

Justice Rilwan added that "for the Federal Government to do so, it must have taken recourse to the National Assembly, which would enact such law.”

The issue now with this legal development is, will the ruling be obeyed, or challenged/appealed, or, God forbid, simply ignored by the executive arm of government?

I guess the informed will follow up on this development.

It is now unconstitutional to deploy troop for election.

Where was the law when elections was held in Ekiti and state of Osun?

Have they forgotten the numbers of military armed that was deploy to this state to influence it for governorship candidate of pdp?

I will see how Jonathan in conjunction with heads of force with deploy huge number that came to osun and Ekiti to all the 36 states now.

We know it's unconstitutional but politicians have made elections more like war and the military are deployed during war.
