BREAKING NEWS: As Jega Bows To Pressure From Jonathan by Nobody: 9:14pm On Feb 06, 2015
[b]In a press statement released today, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) opened the door to the possibility of postponing general elections that are currently scheduled to hold on February 14 and 28, 2015.

A high-level source at INEC told a correspondent of SaharaReporters that the commission’s chairman, Attahiru Jega, had been rattled by pressure from the Presidency and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, and was now open to a possible postponement of the elections.

At a charged meeting of the National Council of States that held in Abuja yesterday, Mr. Jega had argued firmly that his commission was ready and committed to conducting the elections on the current schedule. However, the INEC source disclosed that the electoral chairman had been disquieted by the seeming determination of President Goodluck Jonathan’s close associates to force a postponement in the face of dwindling prospects for the incumbent president’s re-election.

“Even though Professor Attahiru Jega wants to hold the elections as scheduled, he has seen that even some of his senior officials have been bought by the Presidency and are singing a different tune,” said our INEC source.

Our INEC source added that Mr. Jega “feels some of the forces at the Presidency and within INEC may be trying to sabotage the election in order to rubbish his reputation. So he has now decided to call all the stakeholders to a meeting to discuss whether to postpone or not.”

A statement released today by INEC read, “On Thursday, February 5, 2015, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, was invited to brief the National Council of States (NCS) on the preparedness of INEC to conduct the 2015 general elections. He made a presentation titled ‘Preparations for the 2015 General Elections: Progress Report.’ The National Security Adviser (NSA) and Armed Services Chiefs also briefed the Council on the current security situation.

“As a follow-up to that meeting, the Commission has scheduled a consultative meeting with chairmen and secretaries of all registered political parties, as well as a meeting with the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) on Saturday, February 7, 2015.

“Thereafter, the Commission will address a press conference to brief the nation on its decision with regard to whether or not the general elections will hold as currently scheduled.”

It seems true after all that Jega's life has been threatened. Doyin Okupe just held a press conference about why INEC should not hold election next week. Okupe claimed other elections were held in April. Okupe further claimed Nigeria is at war and election should not go ahead in the North-east due to insurgency.

You should all come to your senses. This event was deliberate and premeditated. It was all Jonathan's plan to have the North-east bogged down with war so he can remain in power beyond May 29 without election holding.

My source told me the election is about to be postponed for eight weeks.

Jonathan won't go down without a fight. There was go ahead yesterday at the meeting but he refused to abide by decision made at the meeting to allow INEC to do its work.

This issue of PVC collection has clearly shown that many Nigerians who called themselves literate especially the internet users are not!
Firstly, in 2014 INEC announced that 2011 registered voters should pick PVC and peradventure your name is not on the register, you should do reregistration.
Secondly, INEC made it clear that you can only get your PVC the unit or LG where u registered and thats where you can vote. Additionally, if you've relocated, you should ask for transfer of your PVC to your new place by making a request through your new INEC LGA resident officer.
Finally, all those who registered or reregistered in 2014 their PVC is ready.

With all this information available online even on different forum like NL, some people still find it difficult to get their PVC! So many were nonchalant last year, thinking their 2011 TVC was still valid, only for them to find out that they were actually suppose to reregister! So many also failed to make a request for transfer of their PVC and now they are crying foul!
All I know is that a serious minded Nigerian, who really want to perform his or her civic duty would have played by the rules and instructions of INEC.
INEC is spot on in all her decisions ..Rule is Rule!!!!
INEC should not shift ground on the basis of PVC collection

Nothing to discuss about the postponement of coming election except if they want to bring the country into darkness.Naturally it is not possible for 100 percent of electorate to vote on election day.The only reason they are fighting to shift this election is just because, they have known that if election is conducted today oga Jona will loose galantly. We the citizen don't want this election to be shift to any other day than feb 14,2015.We are also pleading to Jega not to be compromised by PDP threat and their money.Voters should go out on feb 14 to cast their vote for whoever they like. But to me and my family.

The non collected PVCs are for those who registered multiple times. The biometric data machine won't allow them to get extra PVCs. Those who want to participate in the election already got their PVCs and ready to vote.

Jega should be very careful about what decision he makes at this crucial time. His decision on whether the polls would be shifted or not should have been best aired right at the NCS held on thursday and not waiting till 2 days after to check out how well logistics have faired. I strong want to believe that the final decision of INEC tomorrow will be to carry out the polls as planned because anything contrary will not be acceptable as it seems his integrity has been compromised

The military already told Jega they can't provide security and logistics at this time. They claim they are not ready for it.

Heavy military presence is not expected in every state that has been fairly peaceful before this time. Besides, after the statesmen met,Okorocha was quoted to have said that the security chiefs said they were ready for the election, that their worries are the possibility of holding elections in territories under BH control, which ordinarily, polls are not expected to hold there due to the volatility of the security situation there. It should not be tomorrow saturday that Jega will realise that INEC cannot contain all the logistic issues on ground.

There are many states where less than 50% of registered voters have been able to collect their pvc. INEC had 4 yrs to prepare for this election, why wait till the last minute to start distributing pvc.

They should postpone the election until a substantial number of the electorates have collected their pvc.
