Press Statement John Kerry
Secretary of State Washington, DC
February 7, 2015

The United States is deeply disappointed by the decision to postpone Nigeria’s presidential election, which had been scheduled for February 14.

Political interference with the Independent National Electoral Commission is unacceptable, and it is critical that the government not use security concerns as a pretext for impeding the democratic process. The international community will be watching closely as the Nigerian government prepares for elections on the newly scheduled dates. The United States underscores the importance of ensuring that there are no further delays.

As I reaffirmed when I visited Lagos last month, we support a free, transparent, and credible electoral process in Nigeria and renew our calls on all candidates, their supporters, and Nigerian citizens to maintain calm and reject election-related violence.

All thanks to GEJ/PDP that thinks power belongs to him/them, that wants to cling to power at all cost. Power belongs to the people, and majority have decided to vote for change, change can only be delayed but never denied ...#March4Buhari

I strongly support the postponement of the elections in Nigeria to new dates, I believe US is supporting boko haram because few months ago, Nigeria tried to buy Ammunition from South Africa and Israel but US blocked all until later the Ammunitions was bought from Ukraine and they just arrived few weeks ago,the handlers will be trained before they will be put to use.if US did not frustrate Nigeria's efforts then and with the support of some neighboring countries now may be this election postponement may have not arise. All these people making noise everywhere calling President Jonathan names, ask any of them,if INEC send any of their children or relation to Borno state as INEC staff or adhoc staff ,would they allow them to go! Last week I heard EU representative to Nigeria saying on television that they will not go to the North East to monitor Elections because of Security Concern.my conclusion US is not Good Friend of Nigeria.
