A Non-governmental organisation, Save Democracy Initiative, has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to stop playing politics with government institutions under his watch especially the security agencies, as this will destroy the democratic process.

The group, in a statement signed by it President, Olayemi Success, said the deployment of military personnel to the houses of some opposition party leaders is act of intimidation, harassment and threat to life by military authorities.

He said as an NGO with the aim of promoting and protecting the growth of democracy in Nigeria, it finds it alarming, saying the move could further heighten the already tensed political space.

It called on the President to caution the military leadership so that they will “not heat – up the polity unnecessarily, bearing in mind that action and reaction are equal but in opposite.

“It is extreme for the government to draft the military to such dirty politics of intimidating opposition party leaders, while the military authority is hypocritical shouting not to be dragged to the politics; words they never meant.

“What happened that police are no more allowed to do their job? Perhaps because the police will not be as intimidating as the military boys, and that is unacceptable,” he lamented.
