chocolateme: I remember reading this in the earlier post. I remember suggesting that a fundamental human right action should be filed. That is what the lawyer was doing even if he was not being as fast as you would expect. Now you people should sue the woman and join the police for illegal detention. Your family can make good money on this. Your mum should not have been detained for more than 24 hours. Sue the IPO in hisnpersonal capacity together with the woman u called Naomi and then join the police. When you get a positive judgment you can levy execution on the womans estates and properties even if she continues to run. 2 Likes |

Its really sad how many innocent Nigerians lost their life everyday because they have no judiciary system in place to protect them! you can see from the guys story the kind of money the lawyer is requesting for just to take the matter to court while the suspect is languishing in detention! whatever happens to probono - It doesn't exist in Nigerian lawyer's dictionary! AM SERIOUSLY CAMPAIGNING FOR GMB BECAUSE WE NEED A SERIOUS OVERHAUL OF THIS CONTRAPTION CALLED NIGERIA! WE BADLY, SO SO BADLY NEED TO OVERHAUL OUR ENTIRE SYSTEM AND GMB IS THE ONLY MAN THAT CAN LAY A GOOD FOUNDATION FOR THE REPAIRS BEFORE OTHER ACTIVE CITIZENS CAN TAKE OVER FROM HIM AND CONTINUE THE WORK! Thank God all went well. Your mum is still scarred from her experiences. She needs a psychotherapist to decondition her mind. As for the extrajudicial killings, we need a way to enforce the rule of law in this country. I pray for the day such stories will end in this country. God bless. |

@OP, if you and your siblings are bold enough, go to the bank and make enquiries.... also ask the bank staff in charge of the loan or any other staff to give you the office address of the bank's valuer..cuz the fault is from that girl working for land n building consulting company of the bank...the girl didn't value the property but instead gave the bank a wrong figure. My problem now is why will your mum be thrown to sell without proper verification and the bank can never say they don't know anything about it...it's a great injustice to your mum.... if you have a good lawyer, you'll sue the bank, SARS and the valuation company of the bank. I work for a credit(lending) institution...no bank has that right to take it's customer to court EXCEPT if the customer refuses to pay... more so being the staff of the valuation company?? that's crazy! 2 Likes |

i1: Loan of 2.5millilion to yield interest up to 6million,the moment you sign such loan u re doomed except you have a way of evaluating ur collateral to meet the amount of the initial loan 2.5m and valued @ 7m otherwise ,I sorry sorry oh. Loan for small scale traders is always like working for the banks. Meanwhile there is a deal businessmen do called collateral.someone else brings in the collateral, while someone else sticks the neck for the loan, and once its granted they share the loan within themselves.now tell me,is the person signing for the loan willing to payback?most times the collaterals is an arrangee thing, with the court, bank and the person signing for the loan |

sorry@ops. We need to condemn the police attitude on this. But as someone rightly said, the only solution to the problem is meeting the bank manager. Discuss with him the difficulties that your parent went through and also explain why their demand letters were not responded( because i believe, to reach this level, there must be a demand letter served). Request for interest concession and timeline to pay up, i think once u can agree on this, the issue will be laid to rest. 1 Like |

Did this happen in Nigeria or somewhere in Sudan? I'm confused. Can someone just pick up the phone and instruct the police to arrest someone? Who is shooting who? Please take your mom for both a physical and mental check up. She likely went through more than she can ever tell you. I give up on Nigeria 1 Like |

nwaanambra1: Oh ok. Human right law firms do that a lot. Some go to the cells to look up such people and negotiate bails for them. Even courts have been known to appoint vounsel in court to take over defence in criminal matters of people not defended. |

op please settle with the bank and don't sue anybody. the lawyer might get u into a court case and continue extorting money from u while the case drags on indefinitely given the messed up courts in Nigeria, besides SARS if sued can make ur family disappear overnight and nothing will happen. i know a guy that won a case against EFCC and they turned around to rearrest him indefinitely. SARS would do worse. just settle with the bank cos the bank was not responsible and would do anything to avoid a police case in my own experience. leave everything to God. 1 Like |

otipoju: I'd like to have details of the bank and the staff in question. I must say here that the staff was very unprofessional in the way she handled the matter. It will do you good to make available every details of the bank in order to bring to bring justice to this case. Even if the so called banker is on recovery suspension, there are so many ways to go about it. 1 Like |

Nice to hear your mom has been freed. But, as I was reading your story one thing that struck me is the universality of corruption in Nigeria. So, the lawyer couldn't bail your mom legally due to the Nigerian man-made bottlenecks?. But a certain bigman from Abuja made a call to SARS office and your mom was freed within 24 hours?. NIGERIA IS A DEAD COUNTRY!. Until we get a government that will address this and provide justice for ALL Nigerians whether poor or rich, democracy haven't began. 3 Likes |

Congratulations oooooo. I dread the Nigerian Police because of an experience I had with them in 2007 in Lagos. I had just returned from NYSC and was working as a trainee journalist (called cob reporter). On that Sunday, I decided to visit my uncle's shop in Alausa. I forgot my I D card at home. On that Sunday, I closed from the shop at 9pm and with one of my uncle's boys, we waited at the Alausa Bus Stop for a bus to take us home. Suddenly, this danfo just stopped, they came down with their AK47, asked me to where I was going, I said home and that I just closed from the shop. That was how they asked me and the boy to get into the bus with two other people waiting at the bus stop. I was as scared as death. They drove us round Alausa, and while this was done, they were telling us: "na una dey terrorise Alausa abi?" I could not say anything as I was shaking from inside. They picked some others as they went on. That was how we landed at the Area F police command at 11pm. I met a crowd of people all stipped of their shirts. They asked us to strip too. I did. Two times after us, they brought in another set of people including girls (probably on night hustling.) At mid-night, they lined us up and sat at a distance. They would call each person, ask what brought him and then they would ask the person to bail himself. When it got to my turn, I told the man how I was picked. He asked me to bail myself but I showed him the N100 left on me and the nylon containing akara that I bought to eat at home. He simply looked at me and said I would be taken to court the next day. By morning, we were few left. Some had bailed themselves. One policeman came and met us. He asked me what I was doing there and I told him. He asked of my profession and I told him I am a journalist. That was how the situation changed. It was like they had seen a lion. They started covering their identities and many others were begging me for forgiveness. They finally freed me and even paid my bike fair home. Since then, I have taken the average policeman for whom he is... |
