The Presidency on Saturday said it was aware of a plot by former President Olusegun Obasanjo and some unnamed others within and outside the country to thwart the forthcoming general elections and foist an unconstitutional Interim National Government,which he hopes to head, on the nation.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, said this in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja.

Abati was reacting to an allegation by Obasanjo that President Goodluck Jonathan was planning to plunge the country into crisis if he loses the forthcoming general election.

He said the Presidency found Obasanjo’s allegation odious and repugnant.

He said the former President had repeatedly been impugning on Jonathan’s integrity for the purpose of self-promotion.

The presidential spokesman said it was senseless, irrational and out of place for Obasanjo, who still claims to belong to the same party as the President, to accuse Jonathan of plotting to win the rescheduled presidential elections by “hook or crook” and planning to plunge the nation into crisis if he loses the election.

He said contrary to Obasanjo’s claim, the President would continue to support the Independent National Electoral Commission and other relevant federal agencies to ensure that the rescheduled elections are successfully conducted.

The statement read, “We find the false claims and allegations reportedly made against President Goodluck Jonathan by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday in Abeokuta very odious and repugnant.

“As we have had cause to say before, it is most regrettable indeed that a man like Chief Obasanjo, who should know better, chooses to repeatedly, wantonly, and maliciously impugn the integrity of a sitting President of his country for the primary purpose of self-promotion.

“It is obvious from Chief Obasanjo’s serial vituperations against President Jonathan who is doing his best to positively transform Nigeria for the benefit of all of its people that he has willfully chosen to close his eyes to the present administration’s good works and intentions. For reasons best known to him, Chief Obasanjo has set his mind on regime change by fair or foul means.

“Otherwise, it would be completely senseless, irrational and out of place for Chief Obasanjo, who still claims to belong to the same party as the President, to accuse President Jonathan of plotting to win the rescheduled presidential elections by “hook or crook” and planning to plunge the nation into crisis if he loses the election.

I don't know whether to believe this or not, but with the recent utterances attributed to obasanjo, the presidency may not be far from the truth.
As an elder that he claims to be, he shouldn't be heating up the polity and making unfounded allegations; rather he should be building bridges of unity. Though he's still a member of PDP, but this is not about party affiliation, it's about national unity.

Jonathan please ignore the senile grumpy old man whose polical value is limited to his ota mansion that seeks relevance in the media like the party he navigates.

I hope after march 28 this old man would jump into a well deserved political oblivion where he can fvck his daughter in law all day wrong with out messing up my fresh air

Besides, I don't support what obj said, but I believe that there many traitors in president caucus that will forever loyal to obj, there by giving him many confidential information. It is better he voices out so that it won't catch us unawares.
What an elder sees up there while sitting down, a young man might not see it even if he is ontop of the roof.

Obasanjo no dey look Uche face o ! The man definitely has intelligence report to backup his claims. Jonathan should know that not all those around him are loyal to him some are spies who report back to OBJ.

OBJ is just trying to vindicate himself. He doesn't want prosperity to judge him.

Anybody that has a functioning brain would know GEJ's government have been proving Obasanjo right. Let's start from GEJ giving Tompolo licence to acquire war ships, using military to oppress his political opponents, pressurising Inec into postponing election and if the rumours about the instruction he has given the military to carry out after the election is anything to go by, then Baba is 100% right.
And as for Abati, he should just go to a place where nobody knows him when he's out of office, cos GEJ's gracious inept attitude which makes anybody associated with him look clueless has rubbed off on him.
