Group Threatens Jonathan, PDP Over Democratic Process by jonathan12345: 12:15pm On Feb 20, 2015
A group known as the Civil Society Coalition on Good Governance, has told the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and President Goodluck Jonathan what will happen if the nation’s democratic process is truncated.

The spokesman of the group, Comrade Declan Ihekaire, at a press conference in Lagos, on Thursday vowed to resist any attempt by President Jonathan’s administration and the PDP to truncate the nation’s electoral and democratic process.

The group also accused the Federal Government of planning to re-enact another “June 12” episode, following the substantial signs and fears of further postponement of the country’s general elections.

The spokesman also pointed out that the threat to remove the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega as well as the hinted formation of an interim national government.

The group warned that the consequences of any attempt to undermine the will of the Nigerian people would be catastrophic for the nation, especially for the impoverished citizens who are already pushed to the wall.

Ihekaire, however, urged the ruling party and the Jonathan-led administration to put the interest of the country above their personal and narrow interests, advising them to shun any action that is capable of throwing Nigeria into further brink of disintegration.

Recall that former President Olusegun Obasanjo had also warned Nigerian politicians against electoral violence and advised voters not to be enticed into committing electoral misconduct before, during and after the February election.

Meanwhile, ahead of the general elections, many prominent Nigerians have begun relocating their families outside of the country, fearing outbursts of violence that may accompany the elections.
