Nigeria expunges history from curriculum due to lack of tutor

Nigeria has removed history from its school curriculum. Official reasons Nigeria advances for expunging history as a course of study are that students are shunning it.

The country also claims the decision was necessitated by the fact that there were few jobs for history graduates, and there is dearth of history teachers.
The decision has been met with criticism with many describing the reasons as mere excuses.

Critics have said that Nigeria’s abhorrence of history is not new. There is no official account of the Civil War, reported the Vanguard newspaper, Wednesday. “When we obliterate history, we should also destroy our artifacts, burn our museums and monuments, heritage sites and archaeological activities. A generation of Nigerians without knowledge of history would not appreciate these treasures,” the paper captured in an editorial.

“How does a country proceed without a knowledge of it heroes and heroines? History is not just a study of events and dates, it provides analytical insights into social formations, anthropological developments, inventions and innovations that shape humanity.
“If we do not want to go the way of the Bourbons, we must restore the study of history in our education curriculum and make it compulsory to rescue generations of our society who cultural dilution is making rootless,” the publication stated.

Nigeria and its fear of anything Biafra, if history is such a rubbish course why is it being studied in the world.
How on earth would any serious minded person who wants to be taken seriously not about his history.
The ghost of Biafra can not be stopped by the stopping of history. What of the countless books written on the history of Nigeria by great authors.

It's a national disgrace and monumental scandal. And this is not about recent events like Biafra etc. History is far bigger and wider than that, and encompasses thousands of years into the past.

I also observed the heavy misinformation uploaded to Wikipedia about Nigerian civil war.

other countries can not tell the Nigerian story more than Nigerians and Nigerians can not be in all part of the country at the same time so the best thing is to stop history from been taught in schools while already written literature on the life and times of Nigeria can not be reproduced due to non patronage

This is madness so history was removed during objs tenure in 2007 and reportedly reintroduced by Minister of education malam adamu adamu.

Meanwhile in 2018, the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, announced the reintroduction of History Studies in the Nigerian school curriculum for primary and junior secondary levels.

Other panelists present at the event were Professor Djibril Tamsir Niane from Cameron, Samia Nkrumah from Ghana, Nigerian economist, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, Tony Elumelu and Nigerian Musician Femi Kuti.

Nigeria expunged history from its curriculum because if the real history of Nigeria had been taught, particularly that of 50's and 60's leading up to the civil war and its ending, it would have exposed the deep fraud Nigeria is.

Teaching Nigerian history would be very bad for a section of this country that has been holding the levers of power for a long time
