Road, agriculture, Airport, seaport, education, bla bla etc; no regime in Nigeria from time immemorial whether military or civilian is devoid of one or two achievement depending on the agenga and problems facing the country at the particular moment (eg OBJ gsm, GEJ boko haram etc).

My major conviction and what i felt this present administration have achieved to deserve my vote come march 28 is above all "The signing by Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan of a freedom of information (FOI)" law, this petty and least know achievement holistically encompass all other achievements cum would be achievements of the past administrations.

This FOI is
- A victory for democracy, transparency, justice and development
- With the law, Nigerians finally have vital tools to uncover facts, fight corruption and hold officials and institutions accountable.
- The law profoundly change how government works in Nigeria
- Now we can use the oxygen of information and knowledge to breathe life into governance. It will no longer be business as usual
- The signing of the FOI bill into law is the clearest demonstration ever of the power of civil society working together to influence public policy and initiate reform
- All institutions spending public funds will have to be open about their operations and expenditure while citizens will have the right to access information about their activities
- Whistleblowers who report malfeasance by their employers or organizations will be protected from reprisals
- The law gave us the youths for first time ever the pathway to communicate directly with our leaders without fear of arrest and prosecution (eg GEJ on facebook, GMB on twitter)
- Etc

I could remember years back (to be precise during OBJ regime and his governors), all our Media houses was only allowed to air governmental achievements and propagandas to the extent of detering opposition parties to air their manifestos during election period but presently the opposite is the case.

APC was capable of waxing pretty stronger because of said law.

This is an excerpt from Wikipedia on "freedom of information law by country"

Nigeria
President Goodluck Jonathan has signed into law the Freedom of Information (FoI) Bill, awaited for 12 years by media proprietors and practitioners alike, during which the Villa got knocks for filibustering and lawmakers complained of bombardment by campaigners.

The House of Representatives passed the Bill on February 24, 2011 and the Senate dialled up integrity on March 16 as it delivered on promise to pass it.

The harmonised version was passed by both Chambers on May 26, 2011.It was conveyed to Jonathan on May 27, and he signed it on May 28, 2011, according to a statement Aso Rock issued on Tuesday.

Two states in Nigeria (namely Ekiti and Lagos State) have adopted the Freedom of Information Act at State level but they have extended the response date at State level from 7 days to 14 days. We expect more states to adopt the bill and come up with their own version. FOI expert and author of Nigeria Freedom of Information Act: A Practical Guide For Nigerians, Temitope Olodo, on BEN TV Channel 184 told viewers that "the passing of the law was a victory for Nigerians all over the world"

This is my opinion and conviction for supporting the present administration.
Yours may differ therefore no insult to my personality

I respect your opinion
Yet I think the FOI bill is not so great an achievement
Looking at the timing it was the least the president could do
And the legislative too because it's long overdue.
The reasons I will not vote gej are
1. Massive looting and corruption
2. Epileptic power supply
3. Inability to get refineries working
4. Slow Response to the abduction of chibok girls
5. Lingering insurgency in NE, due to lackadaisical response
7. Yawns
8. The list is endless
cry

Science said that evolution takes time to manifest so are your reasons against GEJ.

Any leader that Promise magical reformation should be feared. If Obama happens be our President today with his competency, he can still not do anything magically devoid of gradual process.
So those your opinions are either not the president making or the said gradual manifestation.

Re: Opinion= Jonathan's Greatest Achievement by Nobody: 5:44am On Feb 21, 2015
In my opinion, his greatest achievement is in running a true democratic government where everyone has the freedom to vent their opinion without fear of trepidation.

This is the only government where no one had gone on exile because he is opposed to the presidency. Some of the worst critics of mr president are those he encouraged to come back from exile.

Freedom before and after speech, no politically motivated killings, mountainous hope regained on the electoral process. ..name them. These are the true greatest achievements of GEJ beyond infrastructural and agricultural revolutions.

Which corruption, no administration in Nigeria is devoid of corruption even During Buhari regime, there are zero tolerance for press freedom, how will we know the deep corruption going on since there was no press cum press freedom to report those irregularities and no public servant or individual dare lay hand on public documents in order to whistleblow any sharp practices then.

- Whistleblowers who report malfeasance by their employers or organizations will be protected from reprisals
Many Bills have been signed into law by this same administration but without proper implementation.
WHISTLEBLOWERS like Sanusi Lamido (former CBN Gov), was forced out of office after they blow the whistle.

menesheh:

- With the law, Nigerians finally have vital tools to uncover facts, fight corruption and hold officials and institutions accountable.
Which tools? Even if you uncover any fact "Mr Stealing is Not Corruption" will still not do anything to bring them to book. The facts uncovered against Stella Oduah, Alison Madueke, where are they today? The've been swept under the carpet.
Instead of putting them in crates so that they can serve as examples to others, our president wants to use "technology" to fight them.

These and many more are the reason GEJ will not have my vote.

A corrupt govt official today may/will have problems tomorrow being pick as a candidate for public post tommorrow. am not advocating that corrupt public servants should not be booked for their irregularities, we are getting there.

Power

This is one area the president has committed to leaving an eternal legacy on the life of Nigerians.

Launch of the roadmap for power sector reform. The roadmap launched sets out a clear implementation plan of the Electricity Power Sector Reform Act (2005) as a reaffirmation of the commitment to resolve the power crises and setting the path for power sector Improvement.
The Re-instatement of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission. The regulatory body was strengthened with a new Chairman and Commissioners sworn in for the purpose of providing appropriate regulatory functions for the electricity market in Nigeria.

2 Power SectorThe Jonathan administration unbundled the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) into 18 successor companies for greater efficiency and effectiveness in power generation and distribution.

Creation of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc. The President inaugurated the CEO and board of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc. (also known as the Bulk Trader) in August 2011. The requisite environment for private sector investment in the Nigerian Power Sector has been created by establishing a credit-worthy offtaker of power, NBET Plc., who provides confidence to the power generating companies that they will be paid for power produced.
The Jonathan administration launched the Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation Lighting Scheme. This is to promote and encourage the use of energy efficient bulbs and lighting systems in order to create an energy conservation culture
The Federal Government of Nigeria entered into an MOU with worldwide leaders in the power sector, General Electric. The MoU stipulates that General Electric will invest up to 15 percent equity in power projects in the country summing up to 10,00MW capacity by the year 2020. General Electric also proposes to establish local packaging facility for small aero-derivative turbines in Nigeria which will promote job creation.
Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the US- ExIm Bank. The Ex-Im Bank of the United States of America signed an MoU with the Federal Government of Nigeria to provide an investment window of up to $1.5BN for investors willing to invest in the Nigerian Power Sector. This is the first time such quantum of money will ever be made available by the US Exim Bank for a specific sector in Africa.

3 Power Sector

The Goodluck Jonathan administration has improved the power generation from around 2000 megawatts to 4502 megawatts in December 2012 the highest since Nigeria returned to democratic rule in 1999.

By July this year, power generation will hit 6,000 megawatts and by December this year it will hit 10,000 megawatts (assurance given last week by Minister of State for Power). All ten Power Plants under the National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP) scheme to be commissioned by the end of this year. At the moment, majority of them have reached 95 percent completion stage.
Improved power supply has been boosted in part by the emergency declared in the Gas sector last year by President Jonathan. At the time gas supply was insufficient. But now, thanks to the intervention by Mr. President, Nigeria now produces more gas than is required for domestic consumption.

For more efficient power supply, the Jonathan administration has privatized the power distribution companies (DISCOs) under a most transparent bid process.
Today, large parts of an unprecedented number of cities and towns across the country are enjoying between 14 to 16 hours of uninterrupted power supply, except in some few areas where localized problems of power distribution network have created bottlenecks for smooth transmission.

Knowing them alone is not enough, making them face the wrath of the law is what matters.
Someone steals billions of Naira, the best you can say or do as a president is "Don't worry o, I will sack you, you will not be picked for public post tomorrow". Which tomorrow?

If that is the punishment for corrupt public officials, then the door is opened for more looting.

My friend, the issue of corruption cannot be handled with the kid's glove.

A president making a statement like "How much did Nwobodo stole that Buhari put him in prison, money that is not enough to buy a peugeot"
What is he doing? Encouraging corruption/stealing or discouraging it?

Kindly, in your own opinion, without bias who btween GMB and GEJ can eradicate or alleviate corruption in Nigeria? Based on record.

Don't argue in favour of GEJ, argue in favour of Nigeria,
and be candid with the truth.
You know where their children are, you know where you are.

You said,"you are getting there"? Well, when you get there let me know.
