No fewer than 35,000 job seekers across the 25 local government areas of Delta State are currently struggling for the recently advertised vacant positions at the Nigeria Immigration Service.

The various cyber cafés in Asaba and its environs are filled daily with the applicants struggling to do the on-line registration.

It was reliably gathered that most cyber cafés around Ogbesowe Summit road are making brisk business as some operators allegedly charge N2,000 as their own fee apart from the money the applicants paid into the bank before they could commence registration.

Married and nursing mothers among the applicants are having a hard time completing their registration as some of them were seen begging the operators in tears to attend to them so that they could return home to attend to their spouses and kids.

Investigation revealed that unemployment rate in the last few years across the globe, has remain on the increase a situation many unsuspecting applicants have been swindled by employment agents.

Everyday in Asaba and its environs, there is hue and cry of rip-off by these agents who pose unsuspectingly at strategy positions especially at various cyber cafes where applicants frequent to make prospect of how they could be employed. Speaking to our correspondent, the state commissioner for information, Barr, Chike Ogeah, blamed the unemployment upsurge on Laziness, disclosing that here in Delta state the Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has created an enabling environments for graduates to help themselves, especially through Micro credit scheme. He said that the initiation of “Delta Beyond oil” by the state governor was to ensure Deltans do not depend on oil alone instead to make themselves available to do so much without oil.

Some of the applicants, who spoke to our correspondent at the weekend, described the unemployment market as “suicide” and called on the state and Federal government to be more proactive in creating employment for young graduates including non graduates.

They said “The Employment scheme seemingly pretends problems we suffer to register lobby to get who will assist for the employments, it is very difficulties”

Unconfirmed sources said female applicants who possess the basic requirements are allegedly subjected to sexual intercourse by these agents who also claim to be close to the corridor of power, as early as 7.30am cyber café (s) in Asaba are crowded with both old and young armed with tiles passport photographs struggling to register after making payments at the banked.
