All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Major General Muhammadu Buhari and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidates and legislators in the three northern geo-political zones have been holding secret meetings on how to win elections and remain united under the banner of APC.

The strategy, according to sources in the north was to allow the candidates contest elections under their respective parties, to guarantee their return to offices and later defect to APC in order to allow north remain united and indivisible. The move follows various opinion polls which showed that the former Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, is going to win majority of the states in the northern part of the country especially North West zone.


Affected PDP legislators include those in Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa, Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, Bauchi, Katsina, Gombe, Adamawa, Borno and Plateau states. On the list of governors are Gov Yero of Kaduna State, Alh Musa Mukhtar Yero, Gombe State Gov, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, Bauchi State Gov, Isa Yuguda, Kebbi, Taraba and Nuhu Ribadu of Adamawa.


Our findings also indicated that PDP Governorship and Senatorial Candidates in all the States in the North Eastern part of the country predominantly dominated by APC have allegedly pleaded with Muhammad Buhari of APC to allow them win their elections in March 2015.


This development came amid fears that they might not win elections in their various states and districts on April 11, since majority of their people are sympathetic to APC’s cause and are ready to deliver block votes for its candidates.


As a result, they have embarked subtle appeal to APC arrow heads to allow them contest under their parties and win before they defect to APC. It was gathered that they are yet to finalise the modalities to use but meetings to work out the details have started with a view to making them known to their party members soon before the general elections.


Our correspondent also gathered that all PDP governors except Sule Lamido of Jigawa State, were present at the meetings held with Buhari in Kaduna at midnight before he travelled to London last week. However, they agreed to start the meeting after his arrival in Nigeria to work out the modalities before unveiling them to their supporters.


Efforts made to verify the authenticity of the allegation from Buhari campaign team failed. We however gathered that PDP candidates in North- West began this alliance moves with the APC chieftains when they realised that it was becoming impossible for them to win elections in the APC dominated states after the Borno campaign rally of APC Presidential candidate last week which witnessed unprecedented crowd.


It was revealed that all candidates have agreed, at the meeting, to support APC during the coming elections so that Buhari could win the presidential election with other PDP aspirants.


However, the Arewa community in the South West on Friday endorsed the candidacy of President Goodluck Jonathan for a second term in office. The endorsement was conveyed to the President at an interactive meeting he held with them at the State House Marina, Lagos.


The Sarkin Housawa and Chairman, Arewa council of Chiefs in Lagos and Ogun, Alhaji Sani Kabiru, said that the endorsement would be confirmed in a public rally by the 17 southern states in Asaba on Feb. 28.
