NGO Demands Full Forensic Audit Report On NNPC by midolian(m): 8:57am On Feb 24, 2015
An Uyo, Akwa Ibom State based non-governmental organisation, Policy Alert, has called on the Federal Government to release to the public the full report of the forensic audit on the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) recently submitted to it by auditing firm, Price Waterhouse coopers.

In a statement by the NGO on Monday, the organisation expressed disappointment that nearly three weeks after the report was first submitted to the President by the audit firm, only a summary of highlights had so far been released to the public by the office of the Auditor General.

The statement signed by the organisation’s Head of Programmes, Tijah Bolton-Akpan, considers keeping details   of the report out of public view a denial of the public’s right to know

“The audit was commissioned in response to public demand for answers to questions bordering on the management of our national wealth. With the completion of the audit, the least we expect from government is to make the full report publicly accessible. Nigerians cannot accept anything short of full disclosure.”

The group also demanded the immediate payment of the outstanding $1.48 billion as stated in the summary report into the federation account by the NNPC and its subsidiary.

, the National Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), while insisting that officials responsible for mismanagement of transactions at NNPC must be appropriately disciplined.

The statement also called on the National Assembly to ensure that the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) is passed before the end of the present assembly, noting that “the PIB may not be a magic wand but in its current form, its provisions comprehensively address the inefficient structure and opaque management practices which have plagued the NNPC for decades”.
