The Injustice Meted Out Against Admission Applicants For UNIZIK CEP 2014/2015 by Formidable1: 11:36am On Feb 25, 2015
Dear honourable members of nairaland,

I came with my compaints here because I had no other place to run to for a possible suggestion/solution to this serious injustice that have been meted out against students seeking admission into CEP program in Nnamdi Azikiwe University. Please do try and read through. Your ingenious suggestions could help save a despairing and frustrated student.

About 50% of over 2000 students who took part in the 2014/2015 UNIZIK CEP(Part Time) pre-admission exam could not access their results in the school's online portal. The results came out invalid. This has caused great frustration to most students, especially those who have sought admission for so many years without success.

The CEP forms were sold at N8,000 and the exams were held on 6 Feb, 2015. Prior to the exam, the list of students to sit for the exam came out and next to each name on the list were the 4-digit FORM NUMBERS which would be used to check them in. The exam which was scheduled to start by 8:00am on that day was delayed till around 5.00pm before the OMR sheets(i.e computer answer sheet for shading) and the question papers were brought and students were hurried up to write the exam under stressful conditions. They were made to submit their papers even before the alloted time. Eventually, exams finished very late in the evening and many went home late. Those that came from very far places either 'squatted' at a friend's house or took the risk of travelling at late hours.

By the time the results came out, almost all of them came up invalid. The students were frustrated, they tried to follow it up by complaining to the relevant offices or writing letters but all to no avail. Upon inquiry by the students, they were first told that their results were invalid because they failed to fill in their form numbers in the answer sheet. It must be noted here that there was no provision for form numbers in the answer sheet except for registration numbers. It was by the time they were about to submit their answer sheets that they were informed to fill and shade the form numbers in the space meant for registration numbers. By then many have already finished, submitted and gone home. Those still around were prevented from writing any further thing in their sheets as their answer sheets were taken from them. However upon investigation, some of the students learnt from sources in the school management that the machines which marked their answer sheets were faulty, and thus invalidated many results. This was evident in the raw exam results hardcopy which contained the students' scores but with a lot of aberrations and computer errors on some students' names, form numbers, DOBs and other infos which consequently made their results invalid when accessed from the school portal.

The students have done all they could, and the school did not appear to do anything about it, and worst of all, the admission list for CEP is out and only few were admitted. So my questions now are: Is it fair? After collecting N8,000 from students, are they not entitled to at least see their results, even though they are not eventually admitted? Was this a method devised to extort students of their money and ditch them at the last minute? What can one do about this right now? Where and how can students channel their grievances and complaints regarding university discriminations and misconducts against them?

Thanks for patiently reading through. Hope to get meaningful replies that could save a despairing and frustrated student.
