Obasanjo didn’t inaugurate Olorunsogo ll power plant – NDPHC

The management of Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited, owners of the National Integrated Power Project has refuted reports that the recently inaugurated 750 megawatts Olorunsogo ll Power Plant was commissioned by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The General Manager, Communication and Public Relations, NDPHC, Mr. Yakubu Lawal, said the completion and commissioning of the phase II Olorunsogo plant was a fulfilment of the present administration’s promise to complete inherited power projects.

Lawal, in a statement, said the phase II was a combined circle plant consisting of four units GE made Gas turbines, four heat recovery steam generators and two steam turbine units, with each turbine having a 125MW capacity.

He said, “The power plant thus has the capacity to generate 750MW, a positive development over the phase I plant commissioned by Obasanjo regime which has eight turbine units each of 42MW with a total of 335MW.”

He stated that while the Olorunsogo II project was built by the NIPP as a joint investment of the three tiers of governments of Nigeria, the Olorunsogo I project was basically a Federal Government project.

“Both of the projects were built by SEPCO III of China under distinct and separate contracts. The two power plants sit adjacent to one another but on defined and distinct survey coordinates. They can be accessed by any investigative journalist or indeed any inquisitive person seeking accurate unbiased information at any time.”

Lawal stated that the NIPP was conceived in 2004 by President Obasanjo as a major fast-track initiative to add significant new capacities in generation, transmission and distribution to Nigeria’s electricity supply chain.

He noted that President Goodluck Jonathan’s commitment first as the steering Chairman of NIPP and later pioneering Chairman, Board of Directors of NDPHC actually gave life to the success stories of today.

He has privatised and decentralised it including the generation, transmission and distribution which previous administrations have not been able to do. He has laid the main foundations required for stability in no distant time. You folks want everything to work like margic but even Mrs Amosun has recently said that Buhari himself is not a magician so I dont know why Jonathan is expected to work like a magician. If u diligently follow what is happening in that sector u will agree that so much have been done even though we have not reached the last bus stop yet. Rome was not built in a day.

I see. Laughable. And this is someone who said if he can't do anything within 4 years, there's nothing will be able to do again. It is just unfortunate that people keep indulging this useless government. Sit down and reflect. What has been the direct, ok let's say indirect, impact of this administration on the common Nigerian. Anyway, his underachievement is so clear to see. We will keep advocating for a change till we flush out the current fruitless dispensation.
