Golden Eaglets of Nigeria Finished 1st. This is also the first time Nigeria won a FIFA Tournament. The victory took Nigerian football to a high pedestal, setting the stage of respect for Nigeria internationally


4. FIFA WORLD YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP, USSR 1985, 24th August - 7th September 1985
Flying Eagles lost the Semi-final to Brazil 2-0. But went through to Finish 3rd, after beating USSR on penalty 1-3. General Buhari did not see the end of this tournament in Office due to the IBB lead coup d etat.
