Transit Support Services Ltd. (TSS) has increased its stock of Autokontrol speed limiters, in line with the efforts of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to ensure that all commercial vehicles operating in Nigeria are equipped with speed limiters before June 1, 2015.

Autokontrol speed limiters are produced by Autokontrol Limited, UK, the world’s leading speed limiter specialist, and are being distributed in Nigeria by Transit Support Services, a wholly owned Nigerian company, located at 26, Oshodi/Apapa Expressway, Lagos.

Autokontrol speed limiters have been used overseas for years and have produced fuel savings where the vehicles have been used on long distance operations. Autokontrol Ltd. has been providing such services in over 40 different countries, having been in the business of developing and fitting of speed controls and vehicle speed control technology for the past 30 years.

Autokontrol speed limiters have worldwide certification, and a great number of countries have already established speed control legislation. Countries such as Egypt, India, which fall within the same economic development index as Nigeria, have not only started using Autokontrol speed limiters, but have also implemented speed control legislation.

As the national distributor for Autokontrol for years now, Transit Support Services Ltd has provided speed limiters for cars, buses, and trucks, for clients such as: Flour Mills of Nigeria, Silver Freight & Allied Ltd., ADS Investment, C & I Leasing, Murada Venture and Imo State Transport Ltd., to name a few. Every Autokontrol speed limiter is affordable, costing as low as tracking devices with no recurrent cost and any that is installed by TSS carries a warranty of 150,000 km or 3 years.

Transit Support Services Ltd. (TSS) provides the latest solution for efficient fleet operation in the area of safe haulage handling, a first class after-sale services and back-up as well full repair services on a wide range of vehicles. In addition, TSS provides auto spare parts and tyre sales and services to the motoring industry.

According to the management of Transit Support Services Ltd., available data show that a leading haulage company in Nigeria – ABC Transport Plc – was able to reduce major accidents involving its fleet by 40% by installing speed limiters on 30% of its vehicles. Speed, already identified as a key risk factor in road traffic injuries, is estimated to be the main contributory factor in about 50% of all road crashes in Nigeria.

Importantly, British Gas achieved a 10% saving in fuel consumption by installing speed limiters on their vehicles, while Angus Council achieved a 4.4% fuel consumption saving on 65 Renault Clios, over the first three months of installation. WHO and the Global Road Safety Partnership have consistently advised that speed limiters be introduced in every country, because these devices not only help in extending the lifespan of vehicle engines, a fact now known to most leasing companies, but also help in reducing fleet downtime as well as insurance costs.

Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reaffirmed the full enforcement of speed limiters with effect from June 1, 2015.
