Rejection Of Rebuilding Of School Not Our Position – Chibok Community
By CHIKA MEFOR AND EJIKE EJIKE

Contrary to reports that the parents of the abducted Chibok girls and the community had rejected the rebuilding of the Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS) Chibok that was burnt by the insurgents, the community had stated that it did not and cannot reject the offer because it needed a functional school for its children.

Speaking during the normal sit-out of the ‪#‎BringBackOurGirls‬ (BBOG) group yesterday, director of publicity of Kibaki Area Development National Association, Dr Manessah Allen, stated that the rejection was made by the caretaker chairman of Chibok council area, Mallam Ba’ana Lawan and was not the position of the parents of the abducted girls and the Chibok community.
Manessah who stated that the community will put out a statement to that effect, noted that since the abduction of the 219 Chibok girls from the school, the school had been closed down, adding that most of the students from the school were at home without education.

He stated that Chibok has for years been abandoned by the government adding that it was not right to mortgage the lives of the people in the community and the little development that comes its way because the Chibok girls were yet to be rescued.

Manessah added that though there were questions about the timing of the federal government to rebuild the school after over 300 days the girls were abducted, the community will not reject the rebuiding of the school, the only one in the area.

“About the visit of federal government officials led by the minister of Finance and Co-ordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, we think it is a bad timing. It would have come before now. Why now, we keep asking? When the Chibok parents met the president, there was lots of promises, which I call false promises. Our girls have been abducted for over 300 days and the response of the government was late but we will not because of these reasons, reject the rebuilding of the school.

“Many girls were writing the exams, when the abduction happened. Among them, there were other students from class one to six, that are supposed to be in school, but are not now. So we need the school.
“It is out of place for the community to say it reject it. I met a woman that has eight children who are supposed to be in the school.
One is among those that were abducted but she will not because her daughter is not yet back and say no to the school. She needs her other seven children to go to school. It is out of place to say, we want our girls and reject the school,” he said.
