After the just concluded recruitment for various positions at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), which started around November 2014, and was concluded March 2015, it has been said that the host community of PTI (Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State) is not satisfied with the recruitment process as their indigenes were denied their quota for employment. It was said that "no indigene of Uvwie was employed during the just concluded recruitment exercise".
The protest which was said to have begun as early as 5:30am on Wednesday March 11th, 2015 comprises of men, women and youths of Uvwie LGA who came out in mass to stop any activity in the institute. Speaking with one of the protesters who identified himself as 'Emma' said: ''It is not fair, our children who even have good grades are not been given the job on the just concluded recruitment exercise".
Thus, the angry youths of Uvwie LGA are currently voicing their discontent by protesting. Currently, the gates of the institute have been shut down. No entry and no exit for both staffs and students of PTI.
