she stole close to 3 dresses in that store. yet, this one would become someone's wife one day.

shame!

I still want to blame the owners of the store. You don’t install cameras because others are doing it the end result is not to see the thieves, but to stop them from stealing, either by catching them or preventing the action. Now you saw that someone stole, ehe? Is she afraid, ngwanu come and catch her. Then you see that the entire process was a waste of time.

In some developed countries, when you visit their shops, they would boldly right it from their gate “High security cameras installed in this premises” or camera installed everywhere in the premises to instill fear in you and you won’t steal anymore or by giving you the impression that once you pick it up and bury it inside your undies, the alarm could trigger off and you would be caught.

Here, we won’t write anything on the wall, so they would come in and still then. These ladies may never come close to Allen Avenue anymore.

I pray it doesn’t affect their business. Take heart!

Have you seen the security control room of Harrods before? I have and they have security men with radios monitoring the screens as well as patrolling the shop floor.
They don't just rely on tags and yes they do pay people to monitor CCTV and that is a hard fact..

Nuff said

harrods is a different story now.
that's a high end departmental store. how can you compare harrods to the one on this thread. come on, stop reaching! there are items in harrods worth several thousands of british pounds. don't compare it to a store in this video that looks like a regular £1 store. grin

Yeah, they have staff monitoring them, but I don't think the staff do their jobs well, just as coogar said. I know Walmart does little or no monitoring. There has been a times that my friends and I went shopping and we bought water. Because it is too heavy, we put it under the cart and we checked out the items. It was after we reached the parking lot and unloaded the cart that we noticed the water... yet the door sensor let us out without beeping, we had to go back in and pay for it. Even the cashier didn't notice. Most big grocery stores hardly do monitoring.

Some clothing stores do not as well. But I know quite a few that tag their clothes with one little plastic thing (I think the thing contains ink) and only the people at the checkout counter can remove it. If you try taking it out of the store the alarm will go off and if by any means you succeed in taking it out, you cannot wear it because the contraption cannot be removed. Forceful removal will cause the ink to be spilled on the clothes and it does not wash out, rendering it useless. But lots and lots of stores hardly monitor those stuffs. Which gives a field day for thieves, sadly.

Walmart uses ECM technology, they couldn't tag all the items, that's more than 50,000 items in one single store... That will be ridiculous. The CCTV are set to monitor HOT area such electronics, HBA and some other areas. That you left with a $3.99 pack of water is insignificant to the store. When you steal a $1,000 TV, that becomes a different issue.

Oga Coogar, I beg to disagree with you on this one o, big stores have Loss Prevention personnel who monitor these cameras. In large establishments, there's someone in the control room watching a live feed. The electronic tagging helps, but electronic tagging is only as good as if the items are in their original packaging. In MOST instances, the packaging is removed and discarded and the item is taken out. There's no way the anti-theft system will pick it up. The CCTV is the only equipment that picks up such activity.

only the staff at the till can remove those ink tags. if someone attempts to steal any clothing item without going to the till, the alarm system is deafening. the way people at the store would look at you, you would start confessing. grin

It's not waste of money considering the shrink value that retail stores go through. Most stores have shrink up to 3%, that's really high... That's literally profit to the store. A store that can save potential thousands of $$$ monthly will like hire one or two control room specialist.

the high end stores have cameras & they do monitor. they actually make enough profit to pay for personnel that would sit & stare at the monitors. a small scale store like the one in the video on this thread wouldn't be able to afford all that on security alone. they have overheads to pay, don't they?

If this is what you're talking about, then yeah, small stores cannot afford it because it will be expensive to them. It's more beneficial to large stores losing thousands monthly in shrink that can afford a professional. Trust me, the clothing system tag can be removed, anyone who knows the system can remove the tag lipsrsealed

We are pretty much saying the same thing. The other person said there is no way you can get out of these stores with anything you have not paid for and I made an argument that not all of those things go noticed. It is not as if you walk out of there with a pin that isn't yours, the security guys are gonna be hot on your heels.

I pretty sure the ladies in the video would not have attempted to steal the bag (the one the woman was examining) as well, its these small things that those petty thieves target. Stores that stock up on small items like these hardly have somebody watching the cameras.

So exactly what is the point of installing CCTVs when there is no real way of catching the culprits?I'm also sure they may have paid with cash for the few clothes they did pay for in the store so tracking them would also be difficult.
The store owner should just pray they step into his store again or have a way of monitoring the cameras in real-time from another area of the store so they can be caught before they leave.

CCTV caught her in d act, but who will catch her live n bring her to justice? Nigeria police? That store should just count its losses n its attendants should be more vigilant.
Of what use is installing CCTV when u won't apprehend d criminals immediately? Abroad, as CCTV don catch u, na so security man don waylay u before u exit d store sef! grin
