A cross-section of Igbo socio-political voices has issued a public warning to Nigerian socialite and entrepreneur Pascal Chibuike Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, over his recent comments about Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi.

The warning follows Cubana’s interview with streamer Peller, where he stated he left Obi’s camp because “I don’t want to lose again” and claimed “Peter will still not win because he is not ready.”

According to a report by DAILY POST, Cubana Chief Priest said he dumped Obi and pledged allegiance to President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election cycle. The entrepreneur, who was one of Obi’s visible supporters during the 2023 race, is now listed as a coordinator of the City Boys Movement, an organization launched by Seyi Tinubu for grassroots mobilization.

In statements circulated online and at community meetings in the South East, several Igbo groups and commentators said Cubana’s remarks were an attempt to “drag Peter Obi’s name through the mud” with claims they described as unsubstantiated.

“We are not saying people cannot change political alignment. That is democracy,” one community leader in Owerri said. “But when you leave a camp, you should leave the person’s name out of it unless you have facts. Making sweeping claims about someone’s readiness without evidence only creates division.”

The groups urged Cubana to “stay away from dragging Peter Obi” and warned that if he continues to make statements they view as false about Obi, “he will face the political and reputational consequences alone.”

They added that Peter Obi remains a private citizen and a political figure entitled to continue his political activities without being the subject of what they called “calculated smears” from former allies.

Cubana Chief Priest was among several entertainers and business figures who publicly backed Peter Obi in 2023. His shift to supporting President Tinubu and his role in the City Boys Movement has drawn mixed reactions within the South East, where Obi retains significant support.

Neither Cubana Chief Priest nor representatives of Peter Obi have issued further public responses to the warning as of the time of filing this report.
