ELECTIONS 2015: Igbo, Yoruba Youths In Nasarawa Endorse Jonathan, Labaran Maku by Ikwokrikwo: 4:08pm On Mar 18, 2015
Igbo youths and Yoruba People in Nasarawa State have endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan and Labaran Maku as their candidates for 2015 the general elections. The leaders of the groups stated this at the end of a
town hall meeting held with the groups in Keffi
Local Government Area of the state. Sylvester Owanchuku, the Nasarawa State Chairman
of the Igbo Youths said the decision to support
Jonathan and Maku was necessitated due to their contribution to transform the various sector of the economy. He said the number of projects executed in the country under President Jonathan were unequalled since the return to democracy in 1999. He said the Igbo had decided to mobilize people for Jonathan and Maku to reciprocate the gesture of physical and human capacity development done to their people and other youths in the country. According to him, “the group took the decision to endorse the duo after sincere deliberation on the current political situation in the country and developmental stride of the President. He added that the records of achievements of the duo and the value they have added to democracy had endeared them to the majority of the people in the country. Also, Shola Olaniyin, leader of the Yoruba in the
state said with Maku’s disposition of humility,
integrity, patriotism and hard work, the state would witness rapid development if he becomes the governor. “Maku remained a role model in the state because of his records of achievements and the experience he has acquired both at the state and the federal
level. “Throughout his public service in the country, Maku was never found wanting in discharging his responsibilities,” he said. He added that Maku had championed the cause of
peace, reconciliation and unity amongst warring communities in the state and would do more if elected governor. The group also resolved to deploy time and resources to embark on relentless mobilization devoid of political, ethnic and religious inclination for the election of Maku as governor in April 11. In his response, Maku who is the gubernatorial candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, promised to create an enable environment for both indigenes and settlers in the state. He said anybody who wants to stay in the state would be allowed to do so, but he or she would be under the traditional rulers or their representatives in the state. “But this administration would not tolerate anybody who would stay in any part of the state and would claim to be above the traditional ruler
and the law,” he added. He therefore, promised to ensure justice to all ethnic and religious groups in the state by considering them for employment and political appointments.
